I Am Going To Do Something

Do it LORD, do it in my days, respond to the wicked who have made my life unbearable. Do it LORD, do it for my studies, my business, my employment, my social life, and ministry. Do it LORD, for the glory of your name, do what no one would believe even if they are told, unless they experience it. Do it for my health, do it for my finances, do it for my spiritual life. Do it God, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

Habakkuk 1:5
“Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.

Habakkuk is the complaining prophet, The book of Habakkuk is a book comprising of the prophet’s complaints and God’s responses. The book opens with a very brief introduction and then straight into the prophet’s complaints.

Habakkuk complains that he calls on God and he gets no response. He is concerned that God is doing nothing about the degenerating situation in Israel. Habakkuk complains of injustice in Israel. God has allowed wrongdoing and it seems like God is tolerating it.

Habakkuk complains that the wicked have overwhelmed the righteous. Justice is perverted and the law is paralyzed. Habakkuk’s greatest concern is that God is doing nothing about the wicked defeating the righteous. Habakkuk thinks that God is doing nothing about the violence around Israel. It seems God is doing nothing is the complaint.

God’s response to this complaint is captured in today’s text. God tells Habakkuk to keenly observe what is happening among the nations. God tells Habakkuk to study Geopolitics and be surprised that God is actually in action. God invites Habakkuk to study Geopolitics, not for fear-mongering and developing insane conspiracy theories. God tells Habakkuk that if he studies Geopolitics, he will be amazed because God is at work. Any study including Geopolitics must show us, God, at work and not show us what Satan is doing. We have no interest in what Satan and his agents are doing. Just tell me the story of Jesus. Tell me what God is doing!

As you study events around the world, do not trace what evil is happening and tell us how it is happening, we have zero interest. Just tell us what God is doing. Tell us the great plans of God to save us in spite of everything else. Tell us that God is greater and mightier than any secret powers on earth and we have no diseases or scientific advances to fear. Tell us that God is greater than cartels driven by profit to create disease and its medication if that is what you believe. Tell us that God will not sit back and watch a few people reduce the population of the earth if that is the theory driving your pronounced fears. Tell us more of God than any other forces on earth!

Then God further responds to Habakkuk’s complaint by saying that He will do something. God tells Habakkuk that, “I am going to do something!” God tells Habakkuk to be patient. God will do something. God will do something about this sickness. God will do something about this failure. God will do something about this lack of money. God will do something!

Have you been hurt? God will do something. Are your tormentors powerful and unstoppable? God will do something. Are you so deep in debt you are almost losing hope? God will do something! Are you lonely? God will do something? Have you reached the dead end and you are now despairing? Cry to God, He will do something! God assures Habakkuk that He will do something. I am going to do something!

God clarifies that this thing He is planning to do will happen in the lifetime of the prophet. God will answer your prayers in your days, in your lifetime. God never delays to the extent that someone will die before getting an answer from God. I am going to do something in your days!

God finally tells Habakkuk that whatever He will do will be so powerful and of a great impact, that if it was reported to him, he won’t believe it. You would not believe, even if you were told. God’s answer will be so out of the limits of imagination that it would shock whoever hears it. God tells Habakkuk that he will experience it, since if he is told he won’t believe it. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

Do it, LORD, do it in my days, respond to the wicked who have made my life unbearable. Do it, LORD, do it for my studies, my business, my employment, my social life, and my ministry. Do it, LORD, for the glory of your name, do what no one would believe even if they are told unless they experience it. Do it for my health, do it for my finances, do it for my spiritual life. Do it, God, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
