John 4:50
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
Good News Translation
Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live!” The man believed Jesus’ words and went.
Jesus went back to Cana where He had performed His first miracle of turning water into wine, John 4:46. As Jesus moves about, a man comes from Capernaum, John 4:46, to Jesus pleading that his son is very sick and almost dying, John 4:47. The man wanted Jesus to go with him to his home so that He can heal his son. The man’s home was far and it needed almost a two-day journey to get there John 4:51-52.
Jesus in the words of our text today told the man to go home, his son shall be well. Jesus was asking the man who came to take Jesus physically to his home, to go back without Jesus for another whole two-day journey. What would he tell people who are expecting Jesus? What will he do and say if he gets home and the child is dead or has died? Will he travel again for another two days looking for Jesus? Would you leave Jesus behind to go back to a child who was so sick to the point of death?
The man risked wasting another two days’ journey. The Bible tells us that the only reason why the man left Jesus and went back home was that he took Jesus at His word, he believed the words of Jesus. He first believed the words of Jesus, then next thing is that he departed. Have you departed?
If he had not believed Jesus, he would have remained begging Jesus to go with him. If he had not taken Jesus at His word, he would have left not to go home, but to go to another possible solution, maybe a traditional healer. The reason why we pray for our school work but we do not go to sit down and study is because we are lazy and hiding behind prayer, or we don’t trust that God answers prayers. You cannot pray for prosperity without going to work. Pray and depart in faith. Have you departed?
You cannot pray for something and hang around acting and speaking doubt. The one praying to God must act in faith as if God has already granted it. Go rejoicing before finding out if your prayer has been answered. Take God at His word! If you take God at His word, you will depart after prayer. Have you departed?
Give me faith dear God, that after prayer I can depart in faith that You have already answered me, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
