2 Chronicles 9:29 (NIV) – As for the other events of Solomon’s reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat?
The story of Solomon towards his death ends by telling us that this is not the whole story. The writer acknowledges that there are more details than the Bible has given. There are many other stories than the Bible has told. The Bible story is intentionally incomplete.
The writer of Chronicles tells us that if we want more details of Solomon’s story, we should check other books. If we want more stories on Solomon, they are available outside the Biblical account. The biblical account is intentionally incomplete.
Nathan the prophet has no books in the Biblical canon. Nathan confronted David over his sin of killing Uriah and adultery with Bathsheba. There are books by Nathan the prophet that are not in the Bible. The writer of chronicles tells us that Nathan has written more detailed and complete stories about Solomon than the biblical account. The biblical account is intentionally incomplete.
Other books about Solomon have been cited. For more stories read them. For detailed stories read them. The biblical objectives did not require all those stories and their details.
John 20:30-31 (NIV) – 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Not all stories of Jesus are written in the Bible. Not all details of the life of Jesus are written in the Bible. John the gospel writer acknowledges that what we have in the Bible are few select stories.
Apostle John tells us that the few select stories are written to facilitate our faith. They are written so that we can believe. The objective was not to tell the whole story, no, the objective is that we believe.
Bible stories are few and selected to facilitate our faith in God. More stories and more details were not found to be necessary. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we have few stories that may not even be complete in details, but they are sufficient to inspire faith in God.
John 21:25 (NIV) – Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
The other reason why Bible stories are few with less detail is because space wouldn’t allow. If all stories and details of Adam’s life were written, then Cain’s life, etc., the space wouldn’t be sufficient. John tells us that there is no space to write everything that Jesus did. The Bible is therefore intentionally summarized.
The Bible stories are intentionally incomplete. Not all details are given. Not all stories are told or complete. Space wouldn’t allow completion. What we have are sufficient for development of our faith in God!
When we attend worship, not everything is preached. Not everything is taught. We only receive what God has deemed sufficient for that day for the development of our faith. You can read the rest at home.
We cannot demand that the Bible should have given us more details and stories. This is because we are currently struggling with the few we have. We have not exhausted studying and understanding the few that we have been given, how can we demand more? The few are sufficient for the biblical objectives to be fulfilled.
The little God has allowed to be in the Bible, is enough to build our faith in Him, and that is the objective of the Bible. May the little things we read, experience, and see, build our faith in God. In Jesus name, Amen!
