2 Chronicles 9:6-7 (NIV) – 6 But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded the report I heard. 7 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!
Queen of Sheba visited King Solomon. She listened to Solomon’s wisdom. She observed life in Israel. She observed how Solomon conducted himself with his workers and countrymen. Queen of Sheba came up with a conclusion- your people are happy!
Queen of Sheba heard the theory of wisdom. Queen of Sheba saw the practice of wisdom. She concluded that these two have a consequence that makes people happy.
Queen of Sheba confessed that what she had been told about Solomon’s wisdom was unbelievable. She further confesses that what she has now found out about Solomon’s wisdom is way greater than what she couldn’t believe from reports she had received. The reports did not even carry half the truth. She then concludes that, because of wisdom, people around King Solomon, are very happy!
The happiness of people around you, could be a reflection of your wisdom or lack of it. The tone and mood at a workplace is directly proportional to the wisdom or lack of it, of the boss. This is also true at home. The tone and mood at home reflects the wisdom or lack of it, of the parents leading the home. The happiness of people is a mirror reflection of leadership wisdom.
1 Kings 10:7-9 (NIV) – 7 But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. 8 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 9 Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”
Queen of Sheba concludes after a prolonged stay with Solomon, that people around Solomon are happy because he is wise. They are happy because the consequence of wisdom is a leadership of justice and righteousness. When a leader is just and righteous, the people become happy. How happy are the people under you?
Romans 12:18 (NIV) – If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
The Bible tells us to do everything that we can do within our ability to make relationships peaceful. As far as it depends on you. Not the other person but you. Sometimes we wish to shift the blame to the other person, but the Bible tells us to operate within our ability. As far as it depends on you.
A lot depends on the leader. You can be petty. You can be vengeful. You can believe every unverified rumor and hearsay that people bring to you so that you fight their enemies. You can be discriminative and biased. A lot depends on the leader and it affects the happiness of everyone else. Don’t focus on others. Focus on yourself. As far as it depends on you, live at peace with others, create an environment of justice and righteousness. As far as it depends on you, let the people around you be happy!
When people under you are sure you will act fairly, they will be happy. When people under you don’t fear you, they will be happy. When people under you don’t worry that you will believe unverified stories and use them to punish them, they will be happy. When people under you are sure they have an equal chance to every opportunity and a fair hearing, they will be happy. How happy are the people who work with you?
Someone has correctly said that when people resign bitterly and leave, they don’t leave organizations, they leave bad bosses. Even when they seem to refer to the organization, they are referring to leaders who may have captured the organization and only their will can be done. It is bosses and parents who create toxic environments. The main leader and parents are responsible for the kind of environment they lead.
Solomon was wise and consequently the people under him and around him were happy. They were happy because he was just and righteous. He wasn’t paranoid and suspicious that every excellent person wanted to take his position. He wasn’t paranoid to constantly think that everything said and done was against him. When a leader is paranoid, people around him will be constantly accused of being traitors. Fear will reign. Paranoid parents will constantly accuse each other and accuse children. No happiness.
You can’t be wise and paranoid. Wisdom will bring an environment of happiness among the people you lead. How happy are the people under you? May God gran us wisdom, and may the people under us be happy always. In Jesus name, Amen!
