Let Us Pray For This Today, It’s Urgent!

2 Chronicles 9:6 (NIV) – But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded the report I heard.

Queen of Sheba visits King Solomon because she heard about his great wisdom. Queen of Sheba may have been from Ethiopia or Yemen, or her territory covered both regions. There is evidence that seems to suggest each possibility. Her visit and gifts to Solomon are credible stories because they fit the times and minerals available in those regions.

Wherever Queen of Sheba came from, does not prevent us from learning key lessons from her visit. First wisdom is attractive, it attracted the Queen to visit Solomon. Secondly wisdom is sought, the Queen went seeking it. Thirdly is that wisdom is not territorial and it can be sought and found beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone. Fourth is that wisdom is expensive, the Queen of Sheba carried valuable things to the king. Fifth is that wisdom pays, it paid Solomon. We need wisdom!

James 1:5 (NIV) – If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

God grants wisdom. Ask God for wisdom. Pray for wisdom. Many times we pray for things because of our immediate need and desperation. The fact that we don’t pray for wisdom earnestly, maybe because we do not see its value.

We desperately pray for healing because we feared death. Wouldn’t we pray for wisdom if we feared folly? We desperately pray for money to do this and that. Wouldn’t we pray for wisdom if we knew it would actually help us get that money?

1 Kings 4:25 (NIV) – During Solomon’s lifetime Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, LIVED IN SAFETY, everyone under their own vine and under their own fig tree.

2 Chronicles 1:15 (NIV) – The king made SILVER AND GOLD AS COMMON IN JERUSALEM as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills.

Solomon prayed for wisdom. Solomon became the king of Israel who enjoyed peace and great prosperity because of wisdom. Wisdom made a difference for Solomon, yet we desperately pray for everything except wisdom? Do we know the value of wisdom?

We fast and pray for everything else except wisdom. For health, we fast and pray. For success we fast and pray. For children, relatives and friends, we fast and pray. For relationships we fast and pray. For wisdom we do not pray or we throw in one sentence as a routine prayer. Do we understand the value of wisdom?

2 Chronicles 9:22-24 (NIV) – 22 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 23 All the kings of the earth sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 24 Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift —articles of silver and gold, and robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.

Queen of Sheba wasn’t the only one who came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom. Solomon was rich and wise, yet people came seeking his wisdom and not his wealth. Given a chance with a wealthy person, would you ask for free handouts or for wisdom? Would you ask for donations or for wisdom. Would you beg to be helped with this and that or for wisdom?

Those who visited Solomon discovered that its wisdom that gave him peace and prosperity. They asked for wisdom. They listened to the wisdom. They were interested in the wisdom. Are you as interested in wisdom?

Those who visited Solomon even paid for the wisdom? Would you pay for wisdom? Do we appreciate wisdom enough to pay for it? Our greatest challenge is not lack of wisdom, but inability to appreciate wisdom.

James 1:5 (NIV) – If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

God gives wisdom generously to all. If anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask for it from God. Ask for it the way you ask for healing. Ask for it the way you ask for success in an exam. Desperately ask for wisdom. 

Dear God grant me wisdom. I pray for wisdom to govern and guide my life. I pray for wisdom so that my life can please You. I pray for wisdom to urgently come upon me today. Grant me wisdom that will help me overcome temptation and make me resilient. Grant me wisdom to overcome challenges I face everyday. Grant me wisdom generously. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
