Luke 4:13
When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
Ephesians 4:27
and do not give the devil a foothold.
The Bible records that after the devil failed to tempt Jesus, he left but with an intention to return at an opportune time. Until we get to heaven at the end of time, victory against Satan is not final he always returns to attack again. Satan is looking for an opportune time to tempt and trouble you and me. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
The Bible warns us against giving the devil a foothold. A foothold is where the foot steps, in order for the rest of the body to lunge forward. All a person needs is a foothold and they can climb a wall or jump over a barrier. To give the devil a foothold is to give the devil all that he needs in order to harm us. To give the devil a foothold is to create the opportune time he needs to harm us. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
The devil is roaming around looking for an opportune moment to devour any of us. We should be alert all the time lest we give him an opportunity. The devil is around us watching out for a chance to lead us into temptation and destroy us. We are actually in an active war situation. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
Revelation 12:10
…For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
Revelation 12:12
…But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
The devil accuses us incessantly, day and night. The devil is seeking an opportunity to bring us down in shame and guilt. He is seeking that opportunity day and night. If he gets any opportunity anytime, he will tempt us and destroy us. We should not give him that opportunity. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
The devil is aggressively seeking this opportunity to tempt us. The Bible tells us that he is filled with fury. The Bible tells us that he is working with the clear knowledge that his time is short. If you have a short time you tend to be very aggressive and precise. We should equally be aggressive in denying the devil these opportunities. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
The good news is that he is seeking an opportunity meaning without it he can’t access us. We praise God that the devil is restricted and he will not just reach us because he wants but unless God permits. This text reveals that God has protected us and we are not obviously exposed, since the devil must seek the opportunity. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
The devil seeks the opportunity when you are broke and experiencing a lack of money. The devil seeks the opportunity when you have all you need. The devil seeks the opportunity when we disagree with others. He seeks the opportunity when we are desperate for anything. Whatever extreme situation you find yourself in, do not give the devil a chance. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
Has anyone offended you? Do not give the devil a chance. Are you in love? Do not give the devil a chance. Is it exam season? Do not give the devil a chance. We need to actively resist the devil through personal Bible studies and prayers. Do not create this opportune time that he is looking for!
As my circumstances keep changing, may I never give the devil a chance, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
