Romans 5:18-19
(18) Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. (19) For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
When you are attacked you can choose to run away or attack back in self-defense. When you attack back to defend yourself, it is called a counter-attack. A counterattack is a response to an attack. The Bible in our passage today gives us a perfect example of a counterattack!
Romans 5:20-21
(20) The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. BUT WHERE SIN INCREASED, GRACE INCREASED ALL THE MORE, (21) so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We were attacked by sin and got counter-attacked by sin by grace. The more sin increased the more grace increased too. Sin made us hopeless in ever becoming members of God’s family. Grace counter-attacked sin by declaring us God’s children for free and without deserving. What sin made impossible, grace made it possible. What a perfect counterattack!
One sin of eating the forbidden fruit brought disaster to all humanity and we are all suffering. That was the attack by sin. The counterattack is that the righteous life of Jesus has brought salvation to all people. What a perfect counterattack!
Through the disobedience of one man – Adam (of course and his wife Eve), we were all made sinners and hopelessly bound for eternal death. That was the attack by sin. The counterattack is that by one Man – Jesus Christ, we are all made candidates for eternal life. What a perfect counterattack!
Joel 2:25-26
(25) “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten —
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm—
my great army that I sent among you.
(26) You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the LORD your God,
who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
God will counterattack the losses caused in your life. Where there was scarcity, God will counterattack with plenty to eat. What a perfect counterattack!
Job 42:10
After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.
Satan attacked Job by causing him a loss of all his wealth and health. The attack was vicious, draining, depressing, stressful, and terrifying. At the right time, God counter-attacked and restored twice as much as Job had lost. What a perfect counterattack!
We are attacked every day by satan and sin. We suffer in many ways when we are attacked. But God by his grace counter attacks and save us. We praise God for His counterattacks!
Are you facing an attack in your studies? Are you facing an attack on your health? Are you facing an attack in your social life? Are your relationships under attack? Are you facing an attack on your finances? Are you facing an attack in your spiritual life? Only God can give the perfect counterattack.
Has satan used people to attack you? Do not revenge, God has a perfect counterattack. Are there circumstances that are purely an attack on your peace of mind and life? God has a perfect counterattack. Trust God for the perfect counterattack!
Dear God, counterattack the sin and suffering in our lives. Counterattack the people who cause us misery, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
