Is There Evidence That You Are Concerned?

Ezekiel 9:4 (NIV) – and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it. ”

Mind your own business has been abused and its now a hiding place for indifference on matters we should show concern. We refuse to take responsibility over the state of the community and society in the pretext that we are minding our own business. There is a time and place to mind our own business and there is a time and pace where we must show concern. Our text today is a focus on the time and place where we must show concern!

1 Thessalonians 4:11 (NIV) – and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS  and work with your hands, just as we told you,

Apostle Paul addresses the church and he condemns lazy people whose only occupation is to spread rumours and gossip about others. Therefore the Apostle tells them to lead a quiet life, avoid seeking fame and popularity. Lead a quite life. Then he tells them to mind their own business as they work hard to make an income. The situation was perfect for minding your own business, for it was a perfect counter measure to laziness and lazy people. However, the situation in Ezekiel’s time required a concern for what was happening.

Ezekiel 9:4 (Message Bible) – “Go through the streets of Jerusalem and put a mark on the forehead of everyone who is in anguish over the outrageous obscenities being done in the city.”

A divine order goes forth, that there should be an identification of those who are concerned. Put a mark on those who are concerned. Let it be known that these are the concerned. God is interested in those who are concerned. God will only save those who are concerned. Is there evidence that you are concerned?

God hates idol worship, there is idol worship in the city, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned? God hates corruption, there is rampant corruption all over the place, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned?

God hates injustice, there is injustice in the city you live in, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned? God hates discrimination, there is discrimination in your city, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned?

God hates abuse of power and secret meetings to plan how the human will prevails and looks like divine action, all these happens around you and you know it, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned? God hates power struggles, we see it all around us, are we concerned? Is there evidence that we are concerned?

God hates people who tarnish His name, all around us His name is being tarnished by those who sin and those who expose the sin for the sake of exposing, does these concern you? Is there evidence that you are concerned?

God hates sexual immorality, yet it’s happening in the church and outside the church, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned? God hates witchcraft and related activities, yet all around us are people who subscribe to witchcraft or give it credence by fearing it, the question is, are you concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned?

Ezekiel 9:4 (Contemporary English Version) – “Walk through the city of Jerusalem and mark the forehead of anyone who is truly upset and sad about the terrible things that are being done here.”

God is concerned, if you are concerned, you are on God’s side. God is concerned, if you are not concerned for whatever reason, you are not on the same side with God. If you are not concerned when God is concerned, you are an enemy of God. Is there evidence that you are concerned?

If you are neutral, you are not concerned. If you don’t like interfering with such issues, you are not concerned. If you prefer not to comment or be associated with such issues, you are not concerned. If those around you don’t know how disturbed you are about these things, you are not concerned. Only the concerned will be saved. Is there evidence that you are concerned?

You can pretend to be concerned and share it on social media so that you get views and followers, while tarnishing God’s name, but are you really concerned? Are you really concerned to have fasted and prayed about it? Have you sought divine help before seeking social media attention? Are you truly concerned? Is there evidence that you are concerned?

May God make us holy so that we will find sin repulsive. May God make us holy so that we will be gravely concerned about happenings not only in the church but also in the world around us. May we be found among the concerned who fast and pray for divine help and not social media help. May God make us concerned, in Jesus name, Amen!
