Be Silent He is Springing Into Action

Zechariah 2:13
Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling. ”

Be silent before the LORD, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling.”

Amplified Bible
“Be still before the LORD, all mankind; for He is roused (raised up) from His holy habitation [in response to His persecuted people].”

Israelites are back in Israel after seventy years of absence since they were in slavery in Babylon due to sin. They are struggling to reconstruct their personal lives and their national life. Prophets like Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi are giving spiritual guidance.

The newly reconstructed temple is looking small, shameful, and embarrassing, Haggai 2:3. Enemies are threatening every step of their reconstruction according to Ezra and Nehemiah. The city is densely populated they can’t afford a wall around it, Zechariah 2:4. The progress so far is not encouraging and the people are worried and murmuring.

God encourages the people through the prophets. God tells them not to despise the small progress that they are making, Zechariah 4:10. Our life is a totality of the small steps we take daily. Success is not one giant step. Success is an accumulation of many small steps. Do not despise the small steps you are making, they will add up and make sense someday. For now, keep on making the small steps.

In response to people’s disappointment about progress in Israel, God sent the message of our text today. Zechariah tells the people to keep quiet. Stop making noise. If you make noise you may not hear what you should hear. If you make noise you interfere with your neighbors who need to listen to something important.

Keep quiet, be silent. Stop focusing on what is at hand. Change your focus to what I am showing you or telling you. Keep quiet, means that this is important than what you are now occupied with. Keep quiet, means abandon what you are doing and attend to this. Give your attention to this and not that.

Why are they to keep quiet? Why are they to stop worrying and murmuring? Zechariah gives the reason. Because the LORD God has arisen to action. Because God has stood up to respond to your questions. Because God is springing into action to save you in your predicament.

Keep quiet, your problem is being solved. Keep quiet you are asking a question that is being answered. Keep quiet, what you are worrying about has been addressed. Keep quiet and discover that your noise has been made irrelevant. Keep quiet and your complaints and murmuring will turn to praise and honor of God if only, you keep quiet!

Be silent, meditate on the goodness of God. Be silent, and stop worrying for God has sorted your issues. Be silent God is springing into action!

Our complaints, murmurs, and worries are noise that we make for ourselves and others. This noise prevents us from realizing what God has done or is doing. If we kept quiet in Bible study, worship and prayer, we would cease the noise. Be silent God is springing into action!

Are you sick? Be silent He is springing into action. Are you broke? Be silent, He is springing into action. Are you stressed and persecuted? Be silent, He is springing into action. Are you lonely and moving from failure to failure? Be silent, He is springing into action. Whatever it is, be silent in meditation, prayer, Bible study, and worship, He is springing into action!

Express your feelings to your closest friends and relatives, it is healthy but, resort to silence after that. Not silence of emptiness. Silence of reverence and anticipation of God’s action. Be silent He is springing into action!

God of heaven, I am in a situation, please help me to trust You and be silent so that I can hear You and see You springing into action. Dear God, spring into action for me, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
