Did You Know These Things We All Have Are Deadly Poisons?

Job 5:2
Resentment kills a fool,
and envy slays the simple.

Envy and jealousy will kill a stupid fool.

To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do.

“For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple (naive).

Resentment is negative feelings of anger against someone. Resentment is refusing to address an offense. Resentment is being continuously angry against someone for what they did or even what you think they did even when they didn’t.

Resentment is the chief ingredient of enmity. Resentment includes contempt against a real or perceived enemy. Resentment constantly wishes the other person ill so that we feel Justice has been done. Resentment prays and wishes that harm befalls the other person. Resentment waits to celebrate when bad things happen to others.

Resentment causes pain and bitterness when the real or perceived enemies are doing well, succeeding, and progressing. Resentment may be against an enemy or a competitor. Resentment is evidenced in our talk about others when it’s never positive under any circumstances. Resentment is our cold reception of another person.

Resentment may be against people who know we have differences. Resentment may be against people who have no idea that we dislike them. Resentment may have been triggered by an event or by our own thoughts.

We all have justified and unjustified resentment. We all have the potential to be resentful against anyone at any time. Yet the Bible tells us that resentment is a poison that will kill the person who has it. In fact, the Bible says it is foolish to have resentment because it is you it will kill. Resentment kills a fool!

Do you have resentment against someone? It is you it will kill. Do you enjoy the resentment and keep feeding it? It is you it will kill. Resentment is an easily available poison that only kills the possessor. Resentment kills a fool!

Envy is another poison we quickly possess. Envy is feeling bad that we do not have what someone else has. Envy is anger and bitterness against someone better than us. Envy proves that someone is better than you and you can’t confess it. Envy can lead to resentment.

Envy can be against anyone at any time. The people we feel envious of may or may not know. Envy develops from within us. Envy is because we can’t have what the other person has. Envy is anger because someone is better than us.

The Bible says envy kills. It kills our ability to work hard. It kills our morale. It kills our morality. It kills our relationship. It kills our objectivity when dealing with the other person. Eventually, it kills us physically and we miss eternal life and end up in hellfires. Envy is a poison we all can access and it kills.

May God save us from resentment and envy. May God save us from resentful and envious people, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
