Acts 5:19-20
(19) But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. (20) “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”
The reason we would like to get out of prison is that freedom is good. Freedom is a fundamental human right. Freedom for freedom’s sake is good enough a reason to appreciate rescue from prison.
When God saved the Apostles from Prison He didn’t do it to prove that He can do it. He didn’t do it so that they can enjoy freedom for freedom’s sake. God did not save them because prison is a bad place. They were rescued for a purpose!
Immediately the Apostles miraculously get out of Prison, and the angel who rescued them explains to them why they are out of prison. The angel tells them to go to the temple courts and preach the good news. God wanted them out of prison so that they can preach. They were rescued for a purpose!
They were not rescued because they prayed. They were not rescued because their families needed them. They were not rescued because the church prayed. God was not impressing anyone by rescuing them. God had His own purposes for that rescue. They were rescued for a purpose!
When God rescues us, He has a purpose for us. God rescues us daily so that we fulfill His purposes. When we let Him down by not fulfilling His purposes, He gives us another chance because He is gracious. We are relevant because there is something for us to do. That is why He rescues us for a purpose!
It is important to find your purpose in life. What are you doing for God and His people? Why should God keep you alive? Why should God rescue you again and again? Is there a purpose for your existence?
Why should God answer your prayer? Why should God answer prayers that others make for you? Why should God rescue you? What purpose will you fulfill in life? We are only rescued for a purpose!
Purpose is not pursuing selfish gain. The purpose is not to amass wealth. Purpose is not accumulating degrees. The purpose is what you do for God and others. What is your purpose? We are only rescued for a purpose!
If you have been rescued without a purpose, it is the limited generosity of God. It will not last forever. Find your relevance by prayerfully searching to know your purpose. We are only rescued for a purpose!
How to identify your purpose. First, self-examination of what you love and are comfortable doing for God and others. Secondly, affirmation by others that this is your best service to God and others. Thirdly, fruitfully fulfilling that purpose, which means what you do bears all types of fruits. That would be your purpose. We are only rescued for a purpose!
John 9:2-3
(2) His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
(3) “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
The purpose of man being born blind was to display the works of God or to bring glory to God. The purpose of the healing of the blind man was not just for him to see but for the glory of God. He was blind for a divine purpose and was healed for a divine purpose. He was rescued for a purpose!
Without a purpose, we don’t deserve to be alive. Without a purpose, we don’t deserve to be rescued from anything! Why should you be rescued from financial problems? Why should you be rescued from sickness? Why should you be rescued from loneliness? Why should you be rescued from heartbreak? Why should you be rescued from academic failure? How will the rescue serve God, His kingdom, and others? We are rescued for a purpose!
Dear God, I can’t fool you by coming up with a fake purpose for my life. Dear God, help me know the purpose of my life. Dear God, help me fulfill my purpose, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
