Psalms 7:11
God is a righteous judge,
a God who displays his wrath every day.
Contemporary English Version
You see that justice is done, and each day you take revenge.
Good News Translation
God is a righteous judge and always condemns the wicked.
New Living Translation
God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day.
Justice delayed is justice denied. God is the ultimate judge of the universe. There is no other judge beyond God. Therefore God’s case has no appeal. The Psalmist at this point calls God an honest judge or a righteous judge who ensures justice is done.
God is unlike human judges who while they do their best they can be deceived and justice is denied. Human judges who are supposed to be a refuge can turn out prejudicial. At the hands of men and women who are appointed as overseers to protect people, more harm has come than protection. More often than not human judges have failed to be a refuge for justice. God is unlike human judges. God is righteous and honest, He ensures justice is done.
We may fail to get justice in human courts. We may fail to get justice in the disciplinary committee. We may fail to get justice in family meetings. We may fail to get justice from employers. We may fail to get justice even from God’s people. We may fail to get a fair hearing from traffic police, local community leaders, etc. The Bible tells us today, do not despair. God will handle every case. No case ends in human hands. All cases are reviewed by God. God has a final word even in flimsy non issues. Take heart, God is a fair Judge and justice will be done by divine command.
For many people, when the Bible tells us to hope for God’s justice, they give up. They give up because it is believed that God’s justice will come at the end of the world. God’s justice is thought to be too far away and maybe not in our lifetime. As a result of this false thinking many despair and resort to revenge, or live in fear, or just give up. As a result of this false thinking, those who harm others do it freely and happily believing they are not accountable very soon and that they still have time to confess and repent.
The Bible tells us today that God’s justice is done daily. No delay! Everyday? Yes, every day! Every day God takes revenge. Every day God punishes the wicked and blesses those who are denied justice. Every day God is at work to ensure fairness in His universe. Everyday? Yes, every day!
David wrote this psalm while under the threat from king Saul. King Saul was appointed by God. King Saul was a man of God and a king with final human authority. Beyond king Saul, David had no one to run to for justice. King Saul a man of God and a final human authority was mistreating David. David in this psalm refers to Saul in a veiled name, Cush the Benjaminite. It was a fearful time that he couldn’t even refer to his enemy directly. Then God revealed to David that God is an honest judge and daily He will ensure justice is done. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Saul actively sought to kill David. David was under daily threat but never harmed, why? Every day God ensured justice is done. That is why though Saul wanted to kill David he didn’t succeed. Why are we alive today? Why hasn’t food poisoning killed us? Why hasn’t witchcraft harmed us? Why hasn’t the worst happened? Because every day God dispenses justice. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Every day the devil wants you sick and dead. You are not sick, and if you are sick you are not dead. Why hasn’t depression killed you? Why hasn’t discouragement driven you out of church? You live under constant threat from business partners, hostile colleagues at work, hating school mates, and ever betraying family members. How have you survived so far? Because justice from God protects you daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Have you been hit by the enemy today? Do you feel discouraged? Do you wonder where God was? Remember the enemy’s attempts on you have been daily. You should have been hit long ago. You should have been sick long ago. You should have died long ago. God has protected you all the days in your past. You should be grateful for the past and trust Him in the tragedies of today. What God has allowed the enemy to do today will be a blessing to you. God’s justice has not failed, it’s dispensed daily. No backlog no delay, it’s daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
You may not see what justice God has done today but He has done it. Your enemy may seem to thrive today but unknown to you God has triggered a revenge today that will mature many days from now. The enemy may think they have succeeded but unknown to them God has today triggered a process that will punish the evil deeds someday soon. Therefore you may not see justice and revenge from God but it happens daily. God’s revenge May mature later but it happens daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
We may not see what God does daily, but He does it anyway. Did you hurt someone and nothing has happened so far? Do not celebrate, you are blind to divine dealings. God dispenses justice daily. You may realize too late that God is revenging. He does it daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Do not feel helpless in the hands of human beings. Do not compromise or resort to corruption or giving up your faith. Do not yield to human pressure. No sex for grades, for a job, or for promotion. No bribes. No paying allegiance to human cartels. The government official may be too powerful but he or she will not escape God’s justice. No dictatorship will last forever. Do not ever give up on justice being done. God has authority in church, out of church and even in secular settings, He is God. Justice will be done anywhere and every where. It will be done daily. Every day? Yes, every day!
Therefore? If we are hurt let us trust God to handle justice. He does it daily. Do not revenge. Treat your enemies with deep respect and kindness. That will not prevent God from avenging. Be hopeful in hopeless unfair situations because God’s justice is daily. For yesterday’s harm, God has already avenged. He does it daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Therefore? If you have hurt anyone, seek forgiveness and reconciliation. God will honor the reconciliation. Seek human and divine forgiveness. That is the only way to avert the disaster of justice that God triggered in His daily activities of justice. For evils of yesterday, there is a punishment cooking against. God does it daily. Everyday? Yes, every day!
Dear God, I hurt people every day. Knowingly and unknowingly. Forgive me, God. I foolishly thought that since nothing happened to me I was safe or could repent later. Now I know that daily you do something. Now I know that anytime the punishment you set daily against me could mature. Oh God, forgive me. Give me the courage to reconcile. Dear God, sometimes I get discouraged by the injustice done against me. Remind me that you rectify each injustice daily, I may not see it but justice is already done. Thank you for daily justice and daily forgiveness, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
