Go Back If You Want To Get Better

Jeremiah 6:16 – This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

Jeremiah 6:17 – I appointed watchmen over you and said, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But you said, ‘We will not listen.’

Before a final pronouncement of deadly judgment against Israel, God offers a last chance to save them from disaster. God tells them to go back to the old paths they had abandoned. God tells them to go back to the watchmen He had appointed. The message is simple but urgent. Go back if you want to get better!

Israel is suffering because they lost the way. Israel is suffering because they adopted new ways that were opposed to God’s will. The solution therefore is to ho back. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back to hard working and avoid gambling and betting. Gambling has wasted your money and time. Gambling is threatening to impoverish you. Go back to working hard and building your wealth slowly. Your finances require that you go back to the discipline of budgeting. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back to returning tithes and offerings so that God can bless your work. Go back to trusting God as the multiplier of wealth. You can’t make any progress unless you acknowledge God by returning tithes and offerings. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back to healthful living. Go back to full square meals without eating in between meals. Go back to balance diet away from snacking. Go back to more fruits and less and less of processed foods. Go back to physical working and walking. Go back to physical fitness. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back to church attendance. Go back to listening to church music and sermons. Go back to finding peace of mind in worship. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back from dangerous misleading friends to simple people who trust the Lord. Go back to people who don’t cheer you to break your relationship with activist unrealistic advice. Go back to people who believe that marriage can work. Go back to people who believe God can and will help you. Go back to people who encourage you to apologize and reconcile. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back even means apologize to those you offended. Go back means restore broken relationships. Go back means confess, repent and get rebaptized. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back to a drug free life. Go back to no partying where drugs and sexual immorality abounds. Go back away from friends who encourage you to abuse drugs and get harmed. Your salvation and future hope is to run away without saying goodbye and go back to a better life. Go back if you want to get better!

Israel was punished with devastating consequences because they refused to go back. They said they will not go back nor walk in old paths. That is how they suffered and perished. We can only survive if we go back. We will avoid their fate if we go back to the good old paths. Go back if you want to get better!

Go back isn’t an invitation to go back to sin. It’s not an invitation to go back to a toxic work place. It’s not an invitation to go back to an abusive life threatening relationship. God’s message is that you only go back to the good old path. Key word is, good. Don’t go back unless it’s good. Go back if you want to get better!

Then God asks them to go back to the watchmen He had appointed. Go back and listen to the watchmen. Go back and listen to the pastors and other preachers. You will find peace of mind and hope. Go back and listen to church music. The sermons and songs are available online. Go back if you want to get better!

May God help us to go back to the good old paths that we may find rest for our souls. May God save us from the defiance of Israelites who refused to go back to the good old paths and even refused to listen to the watchmen. May we get better, find peace and prosperity in going back. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
