2 Corinthians 4:17
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
This world is full of all types of trouble because of sin. Academic troubles. Money troubles. Spiritual troubles. Physical or health-related troubles. Relationships troubles.
When troubles occur we ask so many questions. We ask why it is us who must suffer. We wonder how long it will last. We even question why a loving God would allow this. We sometimes feel our life has just been all trouble.
Our Scripture passage of focus today speaks to us about troubles that face us. The Bible says that these troubles however bad they look are light and temporary. It could have been worse. God has moderated the trouble so that we cannot get overwhelmed, 1 Corinthians 10:13. However big and bad it is, it could get worse. Therefore the Bible calls it light and temporary!
If our troubles are light and temporary it is because of God’s grace. Even when we do not see the hand of God when we are neck-deep in trouble, we should know it is by grace we are not yet destroyed. Therefore, every trouble is an announcement of God’s grace that has toned it down. That is why the Bible says our light and temporary troubles!
The troubles come because we are sinners who deserve worse things than that. Troubles come because we are in a sinful world. Therefore for now until we get into eternal life, troubles are inevitable and they could be worse. Aren’t we glad that when we think the troubles are so bad, the Bible tells us they are in reality light and temporary?
By God’s grace the troubles apart from being light and temporary, they are also achieving something better for us. God by His grace has turned trouble that was to crash us into a steppingstone to something better. Since we must experience trouble, God has made it to lead to something better.
At the end of enduring any trouble, our faith in God grows stronger. At the end of enduring any trouble, we learn lessons that make us excellent and perfect in what we do. At the end of enduring any trouble God grants us bigger and better blessings as He did for Job who really suffered, Job 42:10 and Job 42:12. At the end of suffering that has been made light and temporary, is a much better life!
If we suffer through school we learn lessons that help us endure in life. If we struggle to do some work we learn lessons that help us in the future. After suffering we get better and shouldn’t be bitter!
How do we survive troubles? The Bible’s answer is that we look forward beyond the trouble. Trouble is visible but rewards beyond it are invisible. To survive through trouble look beyond the trouble into the unseen but real blessings after trouble. In the event of trouble, you see the trouble but you may not see the excellent things God has prepared for you after trouble, therefore, look beyond your present trouble!
Dear God, help us through our troubles and end them soon with something better and permanent, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
