Deuteronomy 1:3
In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the LORD had commanded him concerning them.
Deuteronomy is a speech by Moses just before he releases Israelites to get into the Promised Land. The long-awaited conquest of the land has now come. Moses gives this speech to assure them of God’s leadership. Moses gives this speech to warn them against rebelling against God. Moses gives this speech because God has told him he will soon die and will not cross into the Promised Land, therefore this is a good-bye speech. However most important for our consideration today is the timing of this speech.
This speech and events to follow are taking place in the fortieth year, the eleventh month. Just before the fortieth year elapses this speech and the events that follow take place. The fortieth year says a lot about the God we worship. He is right on time!
Numbers 14:34
For forty years —one year for each of the forty days you explored the land —you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’
The book of numbers tells us that God promised Israelites a punishment that will last forty years. This was punishment because they doubted God’s intention to grant them the Promised Land. When the twelve spies returned after exploring the Promised Land for forty days, ten of them discouraged the people. Only Joshua and Caleb gave an encouraging report. Because of the discouragement, people wailed and loudly wondered why God brought them from Egypt just to kill them. They believed they can’t conquer the Promised Land.
God got angry and promised them that none of them who was 20 years and above will cross into the Promised Land. God told them that they will wander in the desert for forty years until they all die and their children grow up. Therefore Moses gives a speech just before the fortieth year turns to be the forty-first year. Right on time!
When the fortieth year came probably many didn’t know its the year of liberation. They may not have known but God knew. As the fortieth year progressed towards its end, it seemed like God will be time-barred to fulfill His promise. Then on the eleventh month, just two months before His promise expires, God sends Moses with a message of liberation. God was right on time!
Liberation came exactly after forty years as God promised. Just before the forty years elapsed, God stepped in and kept time by fulfilling His promise. Right on time!
Isaiah 60:22
The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen.”
Through Isaiah God promises that when the right time comes, He will make it happen. God for whom nothing is impossible will make it happen. God who owns everything and created everything by His word, will make it happen. At the right time, God promises to make it happen. Right on time!
Galatians 4:4
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
Apostle Paul writes to the Galatians that Jesus came at the right time. When the right time came, Jesus was born. Jesus was not born haphazardly. There was a divine plan. There was a time set and when the time came, Jesus was born, when the time came Jesus was baptized and began His earthly preaching ministry when the time came Jesus died and resurrected. It was all on time. Right on time!
Are you waiting on God? Do you feel that God is delaying? Is God late according to you? Is He as late as when He went to raise Lazarus from death after four days in the grave? If God is running late, the problem is your perception of time and not God. God is never late, at the right time He acts. Right on time!
God anointed David king but waited several years before allowing David on the throne. God has time and He is never late. God gave Abraham a child when Abraham least expected but all on God’s time. God is never late, it is our timing that is poor and our impatience great. God acts on time, just trust Him, He is never late even when you think He is late. He is right on time!
Every promise of God will happen right on time. Every blessing from God will come right on time. Every protection and salvation from situations and people, if it comes from God, it will happen right on time. Every prayer will receive a desirable answer right on time. Right on time!
Forgive me God for thinking and believing that you are late in coming to help me. Forgive me God for being impatient. Enable me to trust You even when it seems you are late. May my life be evidence that God is never late but always right on time, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
