Genesis 4:8-10
(8) Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
(9) Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know, ” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
(10) The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
The story of Cain and Abel gives us an idea of how God interacts with this world. How He interacted with the people in the past is a lesson on how He still interacts with us today.
1 Corinthians 10:6
Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.
The Bible tells us stories of the people of the past. These stories are examples we should learn from so that we don’t engage in the evil that destroyed them. Read the stories and apply the lesson to your life.
John 20:30-31
(30) Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. (31) But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Many things happened during the Bible times. There is no way a small book such as the Bible can be even one percent of what happened in the past. What we have are a few collections that the Holy Spirit guided writers to record. These are intended to build our faith. Therefore let us build our faith today through studying the life of Cain and Abel.
God was watching every aspect of the life of Cain and Abel and He still watches even when we don’t know. God accepted some offerings and rejected others and He still does the same thing. God has never changed!
When Cain developed hatred that would lead him to kill his brother, God was watching and God warned him about it. God still watches as we start in the wrong direction and He always sends a warning in many and varied ways. God could warn through sermons, friends, dreams, events, etc. But it is safe to be warned!
When Cain killed his brother, God was watching. God saw it. His silence doesn’t mean He didn’t see. His silence doesn’t mean He approved it. His silence should never be misunderstood. We also deal with the silence of God therefore learn from this story!
Is God silent as you suffer injustice? That doesn’t mean He didn’t see. That doesn’t mean He doesn’t care. That doesn’t mean He won’t do something eventually.
Is God silent as you commit evil? Do not be tempted to think that God’s silence is approval. Do not be tempted to conclude that His silence means that He is absent from the scene. Do not feel emboldened to sin because God is silent, a huge punishment is coming if you do not confess and repent!
We, therefore, learn from this story that sometimes God keeps silent until later on. Sometimes God goes quiet for our own good which may not be clear at this moment. God sometimes goes quiet on evil and good. Sometimes He watches without reacting until later on!
Are you suffering and God is silent? Do not give up faith, He will react later on. Are you wondering if God cares, yes He does and He will prove it later on. Are you enjoying sinful living and making sin look attractive? God will react later on!
If we are conscious that God is watching and will react, later on, it makes our lives better. May we live conscious of the fact that God may be silent, but He will react later on, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
