2 Thessalonians 1:11
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
2 Thessalonians 1:12
We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
When you have done what you should have done and you are now waiting for results, what do you do in those anxious moments? When a lot doesn’t depend on you, but you have played your part, what do you do? When there is nothing else to do, what do you do?
Apostle Paul writes this second letter to Thessalonians. He begins by thanking them and assuring them that God will favor them and also deal with their enemies. He encourages them to live a good life as believers. At this point, Apostle Paul is at a point where he has done his best and has said what he wanted to say. He is now at that point where there is nothing else to say or do.
Apostle Paul and his colleagues in ministry were chased away by persecution as they served the church of the Thessalonians. They were in a situation where they wanted to do more but they couldn’t. They could not go back to nurture that church. A letter had its limit in what it could communicate and achieve. They had done their best and there was nothing else to do!
When there was nothing else to do, our text today tells us that Apostle Paul resorted to continuously praying for this church. When there is nothing else to do you make it a prayer item. When there is nothing else to do, you ask God to do what you can’t. When there is nothing else to do you ask God to handle your deficiencies. When there is nothing else to do you pray about it.
You have prepared for an exam. You have sat an exam. You are not sure if you will pass or fail. The paper was one of those that you don’t even know what will come out. As you wait for results, there is nothing else you can do. When there is nothing else to do you pray about it.
You have made applications. You have filled out forms. You have submitted what was required. As you wait for results, there is nothing else you can do. When there is nothing else you can do, you pray about it!
You have prepared your products. You have packaged them well. You have done adequate marketing. You are now anxious to see progress but there is nothing else to do. When there is nothing else to do you pray!
Your child is leaving home for the first time for a long time. You have prepared. You have put everything in place. You have advised repeatedly. Now it’s time to part, you don’t feel ready for this, but there is nothing else you can do. When there is nothing else you can do, you pray!
In our scripture today, Apostle Paul resorts to prayer since there is nothing else he could do. Prayer asks God to handle what we can’t. Prayer invites God to calm our anxieties.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
When there is nothing else to do anxiety kicks in. That is why we pray. Prayer comes with the assurance that a loving God is handling this case. May prayer to our caring God be our resolve at such moments, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

When there is nothing else to do, we should pray because prayers helps us to solve problems or get answers from what we can’t do, indeed God is always there for us even when we feel we have done all we could, we leave it to God to do what we Can’t do. Thanks for that sharing Pastor
Glory to God!
Thank you for this devotional. I surely need to get to pray when I have done all I was to do lest anxiety kick in.
Hallelujah!
“When there is nothing else you can do, you pray!”
