Isaiah 9:14-15 (NIV) – 14 So the LORD will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day; 15 the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.
After the message of hope is Isaiah chapter nine, God also promises to punish sinners who have refused to repent. Those who have rejected God given salvation. Those who have turned down God’s offer for reconciliation.
God will punish sinners beginning with the head and tail. The head are leaders, influential and affluent people who lead others to sin. God promises to cut them off. Anyone who leads and influences others to sin against God, will be punished by God.
God promises to cut off the tail. The tail are religious leaders who give credence to the influential and affluent who mislead people. The tail are religious leaders who speak lies. Religious leaders by their presence in certain meetings and events can mislead people. Religious leaders can mislead people by lies. They are the tail, and God promises to punish them, to cut them off!
Isaiah 9:16-17 (NIV) – 16 Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray. 17 Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
There are two types of sinners in Israel and everywhere else. Those who mislead others and those who are misled. Those who mislead others are the head and tail that God will punish by cutting them off. Those who are misled are the less privileged in society who accept to be misled. God promises to punish both those who mislead and those who are misled.
Even if you are misled, you will be punished. You accepted to be misled. When you are misled you are not excused from the choices you have made. God promises to punish you for being misled. Therefore be careful that influential and affluent people do not mislead you, you will suffer for it.
Do not accept to be misled by religious leaders, you will suffer for it. If you accept a lie from a religious leaders, God has promised that, you and that leader will suffer punishment. The misleader and the misled. If you believe about things which aren’t biblical, prosperity gospel, unbiblical speaking in tongues, nonbiblical Sabbath, etc. You are misled but you will be punished for refusing to verify and blindly following a religious leader.
If a religious leader misleads you to engage in theft of church money, or manipulating church processes such as elections, you and that leader will suffer punishment. Those who mislead and those who are misled. God will spare none of the two!
If a religious leader leads you into any sin, both of you are guilty. Sexual sin. Visiting witches. Scheming to steal money. Scheming to take leadership positions and deny others opportunities. Spreading lies about other innocent religious leaders. You the misled and the religious leader who misleads you will be punished.
Among the misled are innocent young men, but they will still be punished for accepting to be misled. Among the misled are the fatherless and widows. Lack of a father makes life difficult and painful, yet if the fatherless in their misery and misfortune accept to be misled, they will still be punished. The widows may be suffering because of the death of their husbands. The widows may be going through stressful living, yet if the widows in their misery and misfortune accept to be misled, they will still be punished.
If you are poor and suffering in life. If you have many misfortunes. If life is not easy for you. If everyone sympathizes with you, yet you are a sinner, your misery and misfortune will not exempt you from punishment. You will be punished mercilessly!
Revelation 6:15-17 (NIV) – 15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
At the end of time, when the world comes to an end, there will be two groups of people. Those who are ready to meet Jesus and receive eternal life, and those who are ashamed of meeting Jesus and are seeking to hide from eternal punishment in hell fires. The book of Revelation has provided a list of sinners who will be hiding from Jesus and are about to be thrown in hell fires.
Kings of the earth will not be spared from punishment for their sins. Princes and military generals will not be spared from punishment for their sins. The rich and the mighty, honorable members, their majesties, their excellencies, the richest in this and that, will not be spared from punishment for their sins. They enjoyed life on earth but now they must suffer for their sins!
The book of Revelation doesn’t stop the list with the rich and mighty. We also have everyone who else including the slaves. Ordinary people will not be spared from punishment for their sins. Slaves who suffered in this life will not be exempted from punishment for their sins. Being miserable and having misfortunes doesn’t exempt anyone from punishment for their sins!
Acts 17:30 (NIV) – In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now HE COMMANDS ALL PEOPLE EVERYWHERE TO REPENT.
God commands all of us to repent. Those who mislead others and those who are misled, they should all repent. Those who are fortunate in life and those for whom life is hard, should all repent. No one is excused nor exempted from repentance. May we find time to repent today, even now, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
