Witchcraft Is Potent But God Is Omnipotent

Nahum 3:4
all because of the wanton lust of a prostitute,
alluring, the mistress of sorceries,
who enslaved nations by her prostitution
and peoples by her witchcraft.

Witchcraft broadly refers to the use of magical powers to influence outcomes remotely. Magic is outside natural occurrence and cannot be explained exactly how it works. Magic is supernatural. Black magic refers to magic whose end is destructive and life-threatening. White magic refers to magic whose end is constructive and productive. Through black magic, people are killed, maimed, made to experience loss, etc. Through white magic love is enhanced, business grows, exams are passed and dangerous people are identified and punished. Christianity condemns both black and white magic.

Witchcraft services are offered by people who claim to have powers or access to certain powers that enable them to execute their work. These people are witches or witch doctors. Some witches are make-believe conmen and others are real. The real power behind witchcraft is demonic powers that do magic. Revelation 16:13-14 tells us that miracles, signs, and wonders are produced by Satanic forces. When false preachers perform miracles, they are from Satanic forces and not God’s power that they claim to have. The power behind witchcraft is satanic powers. To procure the services of a witchdoctor, black magic or white magic, is to seek help from Satan. John 10:10 tells us that in the end, the devil will destroy. The devil never has good intentions.

Sometimes Christians will reject the existence of witchcraft. Sometimes believers will say nothing like that exists. However, the truth is that it does exist. The only difference is that it cannot affect a faithful Christian. The reason why a faithful Christian will not be affected is that God who has greater power is protecting them. Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

In our text today God through the prophet tells Nineveh that she has been successful because of two powers but God will destroy her eventually. The two powers of Nineveh are, attractive prostitution and witchcraft. Through attractive prostitution and witchcraft, Nineveh enslaved and destroyed many nations. That confirms that witchcraft is existent and effective. However, God is greater than witchcraft and would now come and destroy Nineveh with their witchcraft. Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

Through witchcraft, Nineveh cast a spell on other nations and made them slaves to her. Through witchcraft people who lack God’s protection are highly influenced and caused to do things, they wouldn’t otherwise do. Through witchcraft, unbelievers are defeated by their competitors. Through witchcraft, unbelievers gain an advantage in business and even pass exams or have their way at the workplace. Through witchcraft, some spouses are contained and domesticated at home to the extent of unreasonable subjection to the other spouse. Witchcraft is real. Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

God tells Nineveh that you have succeeded by witchcraft but now I will destroy you and your witchcraft. Anyone who has thrived on witchcraft will soon be destroyed. at the heigh of your witchcraft influenced excellence, God will make nonsense of your power and bring you down. God hates the use of witchcraft. The use of witchcraft is a rejection of God and subscription to satanic powers and Satan is God’s arch-enemy. The use of witchcraft and procuring those services is to directly challenge God to a duel. God says He will bring witchcraft and its beneficiaries down. Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

Anything succeeding based on witchcraft will be short-lived. That education program supported by witchcraft will be regrettable. That relationship or marriage propped up by witchcraft will end in a very painful heartbreak. That business or job sustained by witchcraft will suddenly end. Witchcraft has some potency some power, but God is much more powerful than it. Do you prefer to work with limited short-lived power of witchcraft or permanent eternal sure superpower of God? Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

Revelation 21:8 tells us that those who will be barred from heaven and eternal life include those who practice magic arts. Witchcraft is a reason why many will miss heaven. Witchcraft is a reason why many will briefly enjoy this life and then suffer bitterly for the rest of their life. Why deal with the limited power of witchcraft when you can deal with the eternal power of God? Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

Some people live in communities where there is no witchcraft talk. They have diviners, palm readers, star followers, and arts that predict the future by relating your birth month to some zodiac sign. Others have people who read the internal organs of a slaughtered animal to predict the future. Others have royal clans that are claimed to have the power to declare the future and empower people to even be leaders through certain powers. All those are sub-disciplines of witchcraft so to speak. Just avoid them.

Others come from communities where witchcraft talk is heavy and real, even sometimes its influence is the elephant in the room. Your best short in such circumstances is to avoid witchcraft talk, witchcraft movies, and witchcraft fearmongers. When you talk about it and watch movies, you calibrate your mind to fear it, and eventually, it casts its spell on you. Reject talks of witchcraft and trust God who has greater power.

Do not entertain talk or thoughts of witchcraft, but pray. Be careful about what Haloween tries to instill in the mind. Be careful about books that make witches and magic to be desired or feared because of their powers. Be careful about kids’ movies that make witches and magic a feared or attractive power. Let your mind dwell on the omnipotence of God and not the potency of witchcraft. Witchcraft is potent but God is Omnipotent!

Jude 1:24 tells us that God is able to keep us from falling. God is able to keep us from being affected by witchcraft. God is able to make witchcraft and related arts powerless in our lives. Dear God forgive us for being witches, or seeking services of witches or living in fear of witchcraft (for fear is sin). Dear God keep us safe from witchcraft and the related arts, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
