There Is No Common Ground, and If You Find It, You Are Lost

Galatians 5:17
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Where there is a conflict we seek reconciliation. One of the ways to reconcile parties in conflict is to ask one party to give up and let the other party win. When none of the two sides are willing to give up their position, the next step is to seek a compromise. A compromise is where both parties cede some ground in order to find a common ground.

The Bible tells us that there will never be a compromise in the conflict between flesh and spirit. Flesh and spirit will not surrender to each other. Flesh and spirit are contrary to each other. Therefore, if you find a common ground in the conflict between flesh and spirit, you are no longer dealing with flesh and spirit conflict, you are lost!

Flesh stands for sinful human nature. Spirit stands for the will of God. The flesh is what drives us before salvation. Spirit is what drives us after salvation. The flesh is what informs the cultures and trends in society. Spirit is what informs faith and its subsequent practice. The flesh is the power of the evil one driving us to rebel against God. Spirit is the power of God that enables us to do the will of God. The Bible tells us that flesh and spirit are always in conflict. There is no common ground and if you find it you are lost!

Flesh and Spirit are two sides of an ongoing Great Controversy between Christ and Satan. The two sides will never reach an agreement. No side will surrender to the other. The conflict will only end when Satan is defeated. Therefore, if you find a common ground in the controversy between Christ and Satan, it is a clear indication that you are lost, because scripture is very clear that there will never be such a compromise!

Anything that looks like a compromise is not of God, it is a ploy by the evil one to make us comfortable sitting at the fence. In matters of flesh and spirit, there is no middle ground, no waiting room, you are either on one side or the other. To be convinced that you are neutral is to be clear on the side of the flesh acting contrary to the Spirit!

Revelation 3:15-16
(15) I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! (16) So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Lukewarm is common ground between hot and cold. The Bible says that God considers all the lukewarm to be His enemies. Those who purport to have found the common ground are enemies of Christ, enemies of the Spirit, and enemies of God. Those who are lukewarm have found a common ground that places them on the side of the flesh, the side of Satan, living in contradiction to the will of God. There is no common ground and if you find it, you are lost!

There is no common ground between religious music and non-religious music, if you find common ground, you are lost. There is no common ground between religious dress and non-religious dress, if you find common ground, you are lost. There is no common ground between the religious type of leadership and a non-religious way of leadership, if you find a common ground, you are lost. There is no common ground and if you find it, you are lost!

There is no common ground in doing marriages, naming children, conducting burials, and other rites of passage, it is either religious or non-religious and if you find a common ground, you are lost. The religious and non-religious must remain in conflict as scripture puts it. You cannot satisfy the Spirit and the flesh at the same time. There is no common ground and if you find it, you are lost!

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

The message is simple – there is no common ground. If you find a common ground, you are officially lost and you need to find your way back to the fold of Christ. There is no common ground and if you find it, you are lost! May God save us from the attractiveness of common ground, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
