Isaiah 7:9 – The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’”
God speaks words of reassurance to the people of Judah who were under attack. God assures them that He will keep them safe. God tells them that no plans of their enemies will see the light of day.
As God speaks to them, He probably notices some degree of doubts. The believe but they are struggling with unbelief. Then God makes the profound statement in our text today. This reveals the secret of victory.
God tells them that I know your enemies in great detail. This is to assure them that God knows what they are dealing with. God even names the enemy. Then God declares that – “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
God has very good plans for us, but without faith, those plans will never come to pass. God plans to raise us up, but without faith, it will not happen. God plans to save us, but without faith, it will not happen. That is why God tells the people of Judah, the people He has assured salvation, that- “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
Hebrews 11:6 – And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Faith connects us to God and His plans for us. Faith invites us to the safe presence of God. Faith triggers God’s will in our life. Without faith it is impossible to please God. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
Faith also works on our inner psychological resources. When you have faith, you will tend to do your best and act bravely. Without faith, you have lost the battle before it begins. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
If you have faith you will succeed, it increases your chances of success. It adjusts your mind to gladly and properly work towards success. With faith no barriers and challenges will slow you down. Faith powers you from within. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
Faith in God removes fear. Fear weakness us. Fear tells us that we will fail. Worst of all, fear assures us that where we are is safer than trying to be victorious. The only solution to fear is faith in God. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
For lack of faith, Israelite army couldn’t fight Goliath for forty days. Young David having experienced God’s help in killing lions and bears, had no fear. He saw and heard Goliath and instead of fear, he had faith he can kill him. Faith makes what others think to be impossible, to be possible. Faith is developed in private in your personal walk with God. In prayer, Bible study and experience. That faith becomes manifest when others think it’s impossible, for you it’s possible. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
May God help us to stand firm in our faith, so that we can stand tall everywhere. May we ever reminded that – “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” In Jesus’s name, Amen!
