Is God Part of The Equation?

Jeremiah 9:3 (NIV) – “They make ready their tongue like a bow, to shoot lies; it is not by truth that they triumph in the land. They go from one sin to another; they do not acknowledge me,” declares the LORD.

God has a complaint against His people. God sends Jeremiah the prophet to express His complaints. God is not happy that his people are liars, they keep lying to each other. They readily and quickly lie. Apart from lying they are passionate sinners. They move from on sin to another and they get worse. However, worst of all is that they do not acknowledge God.

To acknowledge God has also been translated as going without God or acting as if God is not there. They do not take God into account. They do not know God. In summary, they do not have God in the equations of their lives. Is God part of the equation of your life?

Acts 17:28 (NIV) – ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 

Without God we can’t live. Without God we can’t move. Without God we can’t be who we are. God is an integral part of life. Without God life is neither complete nor possible. Without God the equation of life cannot be solved or understood. Yet God speaks through Jeremiah complaining that His people are living as if God is not part of the equation. Is God part of the equation of your life?

Living as if God is not part of the equation does not remove God from the equation. God remains part of the equation, but it is us who refuse to acknowledge that He is part of the equation. He enables us to live, but we ignore Him. He enables us to move, but we ignore Him. He enables us to be what we are, but we act as if He is not part of the equation, yet without Him we are doomed, we cease to exist. Is God part of the equation of your life?

Daniel 5:21-23 (NIV) – 21 He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, UNTIL HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE MOST HIGH GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes. 22 “But you, Belshazzar, his son, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, YOU HAVE SET YOURSELF UP AGAINST THE LORD OF HEAVEN. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. BUT YOU DID NOT HONOR THE GOD WHO HOLDS IN HIS HAND YOUR LIFE and all your ways.

Daniel told Belshazzar this same truth. He reminded him that his father Nebuchadnezzar was punished for ignoring that God was part of the equation of his life. God made Nebuchadnezzar go mad. God made Nebuchadnezzar eat grass for seven years. All these was to prove one point, that God is part of the equation, and Nebuchadnezzar should live his life acknowledging that fact!

Daniel accuses Belshazzar of not learning from Nebuchadnezzar’s experience. Belshazzar lived and acted as if God wasn’t part of the equation, yet, his very life, was in the hand of God. The God he was ignoring waa a very critical aspect of his equation of life. When God withdrew from Nebuchadnezzar, the king went mad for seven years. When God withdrew from Belshazzar, the king was killed that night and his kingdom taken. In your life, is God part of the equation?

The ten plagues of Egypt, were a demonstration to Pharaoh and Egyptians, that God is an integral part of the equation of life. God proved that He has authority over everything. God proved that He does as He pleases. God proved that without Him nothing can be. God is part of the equation, all He wants is that you acknowledge that fact in how you live. Is God part of the equation of your life?

In the equation of your finances, do you acknowledge that God is part of it? In the equation of your academic performance, do you acknowledge that God is part of it? In your equation of relationships and love affairs, do you acknowledge that God is part of it? In your health matters, do you acknowledge that God is part of it? Is God part of the equation of your life?

We acknowledge God by constantly praying about everything. We acknowledge God by involving Him. We ask God for direction. We ask God whether to proceed. We ask God what to do next, even when we think it’s obvious. In that way, we acknowledge that God is part of the equation!

Dear God, in you we live, we move, and have our being. Without You we are nothing. Even our best achievements which we think are our efforts are because of you. Forgive us for not acknowledging You. May we live a life that acknowledges You always, in Jesus name, Amen!
