John 9:4 (NIV) – As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
Jesus was about to heal a man born blind. The disciples raised a question that would have attracted a long discussion. Jesus gives a brief answer and then makes the statement of urgency. It like He says let’s get busy we are running out of time. Hey guys we can’t be distracted with that discussion, let’s get focused on what must be done.
Jesus declares that there is a work to do. The work is God given. The work has to be done and it must be done. We are on a divine mission that takes priority over everything else. We can’t afford to fail when we have a God given assignment.
The challenge we are facing is that we do not have a whole day. The assignment is compelling and urgent and the time given to do it is dwindling. Therefore we must act quickly and get busy,
Time running out means the end of the world is drawing close. Time running out means our dying day is closer. Time running out means the target group may soon be out of our reach. The time in all aspects is running out.
Day time is the working time. Day time is not static. Day time is running out and soon it will be night. We must do our best while we can. Time is running out!
Night is coming. The coming of the night can’t be stopped. Whether we are busy or idle, the night is coming. Whether we do our assignments or not, the night is coming. Therefore we must act quickly and get busy.
Night is when danger is highest. Night is when visibility is limited. Night is a time of challenges and difficulties. In fact Jesus says that in this night – no man can work!
No one can work when the world comes to an end. No one can work when they are dead. No one can work when the work is gone because the target group can no longer be reached. Night is a time when work is impossible for anyone and everyone. We only have these dwindling opportunity during this day time!
The opportunities you have with your children are running out. Soon they leave the home and even move out of the country. Your parenting day is running out. Night is coming when you can’t parent because of distance, time and age. Parent now! Act quickly to correct bad behavior, be busy in the lives of your children, opportunities run out!
The opportunities to enjoy your youth life or married life are running out. You are in a day that is running out and moving towards the night. Love laugh and forgive, because soon it will be night and you won’t be able to love laugh and forgive. Act quickly get busy because opportunities run out!
This same formula can be used at work, at school, etc. Do your best now, right now. Circumstances will soon change and you will not be able to do much. Do the much you can do now. Night is coming when no man can work!
Night is coming when you can’t write. Night is coming when you can’t build. Night is coming when the energy to do things is depleted. Night is coming when the person you should have reconciled with is dead. Night is coming when no man can work!
The time to do anything worthwhile is now. The time to do something for our spiritual growth is now. The time to do anything for our health is now. The time to do anything for our academic life is now. The time to do anything for our social life is now. The time to do anything financial is now. Night is coming soon when no man can work.
May God help us to act quickly and get busy before we run out of opportunities. May we be see the urgency of everything and act appropriately. May God bless that which we are doing. May the night find us having accomplished our work. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
