Genesis 2:8
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
We all want to succeed in whatever we do. When you have a project, you pray and work towards its success. However, the truth is that there are more failures than successes in what many venture out to do. The question therefore is, how do we ensure successful execution of plans and projects? Always start with a plan and pre-requisites.
One of the greatest projects ever recorded is the creation of our world. Other huge projects from scripture, include the salvation of Israel from Egypt. The greatest of all time is and will be the ultimate salvation of all of us who believe from sin and this sinful world to eternal life. This will even include the destruction of this world as we know it and the creation of a new heaven and a new earth. A complete new life will be rolled out. This is no small project. We can learn from these projects that God our Father is meticulously executing. Always start with a plan and pre-requisites.
Salvation from Egypt has a plan. God first trains a project leader. God through divine circumstances sends Moses to grow up in the Egyptian palace and there he learns a lot for forty years. From the Egyptian palace and through divine activities, God dispatches Moses to the Midian wilderness for another forty years. Then God appoints Moses for the project and assigns Aaron his brother as an Assistant. God sends support through plagues and eventually, Israelites are released. Nothing catches God by surprise, the Red Sea opens. The food is provided. Rocks become sources of water. After forty years the project succeeds and Israelites enter the Promised Land. Project successful.
Isaiah 46:10
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’
A study of these projects shows that God executes only what is fully planned. The end is known from the beginning. When the desired end is clearly known from the beginning, that is excellent planning. Even our salvation story and promise show that God knows exactly where we are headed and we are following a plan. We cannot succeed in anything we do if we cannot tell the end from the beginning. Things may change, but we should be inspired and move towards a specific end.
A clear sight of the end launches the beginning and inspires the journey. To start any project without a clear end in sight is to start a stressful journey. The health habits you have chosen to follow or ignore will have an end, do you know that end, is that what you want to move towards? The relationships you start or end will have an end, is that how you want it to go? The procrastination will end somewhere somehow, is that how you want it eventually? Erratic worship attendance will reach it’s logical someday, do you like that destination? Abuse of power will one day end when power ends as it always does, do you like the end you are moving towards? See a clear end and move towards it or avoid it and go towards a better end.
If this is not a marriage partner, how will this intimacy end? The end will come but do you see it? If this is a marriage relationship, why the intolerance? What will be the end of this intolerance? Do you see where this intolerance is heading to? If your powers and abilities have term limits why behave as if you are invincible? Where do you see this conduct ending? If this is a business, why are you careless with customers and thoughtless about best practices? Where do you see this business going? What end do you foresee? All our activities today have a sure end that we are moving towards. Plan for a good ending. A plan shows the end you are moving to, where you begin and where you will go through. There will never be success without a delibaerate plan for sucess!
The creation story in Genesis teaches us that projects need to be done systematically. No rush and need for being meticulous and regular assessment. God first creates light, for it is the pre-requisite for everything else. God then creates the sky, the space above the ground, for without it nothing would happen. Then God creates dry ground and many other things. Finally God creates man and woman. The human beings needed all these things, therefore, what they needed was created first before them. God begins with pre-requisites.
God created water before creating thirst. God created food before creating hunger. God begins with providing what will be required before it is required. God created the world in all detail, before creating human beings who would need it. For successful projects, prioritise pre-requisites.
Our key text today tells us that God made the garden of Eden first, then placed Adam there. God had a plan and God started with pre-requisites. That is the formula fo success. Have a plan that has a very clear end that you are moving towards. As you priositise, do not be tempted to skip pre-requisites. Always start with a plan and pre-requisites!
As we emulate God in how we execute projects, may His success be ours in Jesus’ name, Amen!
