Judges 7:3 – Now announce to the army, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead. ’” So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.(NIV)
Judges 7:3 – So now, proclaim in the hearing of the people, ‘Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’” So twenty-two thousand men returned [home], but ten thousand remained.(Amplified Bible)
Judges 7:3 – So call your troops together and tell them that anyone who is really afraid can leave Mount Gilead and go home.” Twenty-two thousand men returned home, leaving Gideon with only 10,000 soldiers.(Contemporary English Version)
Gideon has an army of 32,000 fighters. God tells Gideon that the army is too big and God can’t work with it because they will claim the credit for victory. God asks Gideon to reduce the army.
What elimination method does God recommend? Do we dismiss the inexperienced? Do we dismiss those who are too old? Do we dismiss the trouble makers and indisciplined? How do we reduce the army to a number acceptable by God?
God’s elimination method begins with those who are afraid. God tells Gideon to tell anyone and everyone who is afraid to go home. The first step to victory is to eliminate fear and the fearful!
Fear is conceding defeat from within. Anyone who is afraid has accepted to lose. Anyone who is afraid doesn’t have faith in their own ability. Fear is surrender before confrontation. God says to Gideon that anyone who is already defeated and has surrendered must go home.
If deep within you you doubt if you can win and consequently you express it by being afraid, then you shouldn’t go to war. If you have given up and you express it as fear, then you shouldn’t attempt what you have given up on. Fear means you have lost and conceded defeat!
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conquering of fear. The courageous have fear but it is secondary to their faith in victory. Those who are afraid have been overwhelmed by fear and their faith in victory is weak or lost.
Courage conquers fear by having positive thoughts. Courage conquers fear by reciting God’s promises in scripture. Courage conquers fear by being prayerful. Courage conquers fear by only consuming positive vibes, positive messages. Courage is optimistic amidst reality, while fear is pessimistic amidst the same reality.
Revelation 21:8 – But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars —they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
The Bible tells us that cowards will burn in hell. Cowards are those who have fear. Cowards are those who are afraid. Cowards are those who have given up and let whatever and whoever opposes them to win. Cowards can’t even stand up for their faith. Cowards can’t preach. Cowards can’t speak up against evil. Cowards will sin against God because they have surrendered themselves to that which they fear to confront. Cowards lack the courage required to choose eternal life when peers around us are choosing temporary pleasure. Unless we eliminate fear, we are eternally doomed!
Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Ezekiel 2:6 – And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.
Repeatedly in scripture God commands that we should be courageous and we should not be afraid. When God commissions Joshua, He tells him to eliminate fear. When God commissions Ezekiel, He tells him to eliminate fear. The path to victory begins with elimination of fear.
What success do you wish to attain? Eliminate fear first. Do not be afraid. Do you wish to know the will of God as written in the Bible and follow it? Eliminate fear first. Do not be afraid. Do you wish to apply for a higher job? Eliminate fear first. Do not be afraid. The path to victory begins with elimination of fear.
You want to date, court, engage and marry? Eliminate fear. Do not be afraid. You want to change your religious faith to one that is truly Bible based? Eliminate fear first. Do not be afraid. The path to victory begins with elimination of fear.
Whatever it is, eliminate fear first. Do not be afraid. The path to victory begins with elimination of fear. May God enable us to eliminate fear, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
