Romans 4:19
Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead —since he was about a hundred years old —and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
Good News Translation
He was then almost one hundred years old; but his faith did not weaken when he thought of his body, which was already practically dead, or of the fact that Sarah could not have children.
Contemporary English Version
Abraham’s faith never became weak, not even when he was nearly 100 years old. He knew he was almost dead and that his wife Sarah could not have children
God promised Abraham that He will give him so many children. Abraham lived on as he waited for the fulfillment of God’s promise. Abraham had faith that God will fulfill His promise. Abraham was sure that God was able and willing to fulfill His promise to give him a child. As time went by, many things changed. Abraham changed and grew older. But one thing never changed and that was Abraham’s faith in God. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
As he grew older and his wife grow older, the reality was that their human ability to get children was fading. As the reality spelled bad news, Abraham’s faith remained steadfast. As it became clear God is late in fulfilling His promise, Abraham did not doubt that God can and will fulfill that promise. Everything changed for the worse and hopeless but Abraham’s faith in God remained hopeful. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
Our text today tells us that Abraham did not weaken in his faith even as his body weakened and even became as good as dead. His body weakened but his faith did not weaken. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
Our friends can disappear but our faith in God must not change. Our money can reduce but our faith in God must remain steadfast. Our influence can fade but our faith must remain steadfast. Our pain may deepen but our faith should remain focused on God. Disappointment can be our daily experience but our faith in God should not change. Sickness, failure, struggles, etc., but our faith in God, must never go down. Many things happened to Abraham, but the Bible tells us that his faith did not weaken. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
Many things are happening in our life, but our faith should not weaken. Many changes are taking place in our life but our faith should not weaken. Many varied experiences will come but our faith in God should not weaken. Abraham did not weaken in his faith even as his body grew old and as good as dead. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
Abraham’s secret to ensuring his faith does not weaken, was in daily communion with God. Abraham was a friend of God. They regularly communed. Our faith cannot grow unless we are having close communion with God. Regular Bible study and prayer. Regular church attendance. Regular focus on the things of God. That is what will keep your faith growing so that it does not weaken while everything else weakens and changes. Everything else can change but we should not let our faith in God change!
Dear God, you have allowed many things to happen to us. Sometimes we feel like you are delaying. Sometimes we feel like you can’t hear us praying. Sometimes we feel like you are so far. Sometimes we even feel you have been unfair to us. Our experiences are many, but we pray that like Abraham our faith in you should not weaken, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
