Judges 4:3
Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the LORD for help.
We only cry when we are helpless. We only cry when we cant fix it. We only cry when we can’t fight back. We only cry when we can’t defend ourselves. We only cry when we can’t do anything to stop the pain. We only cry to ask for sympathy from oppressors. We only cry to call attention to those who can intervene to save us. You are wise if you cry immediately!
We have been taught to persevere. We have been taught to hide pain and pretend all is well. We have been taught that maturity is to cry less or take long to cry. We have been taught that men don’t cry. We have been taught that it is embarrassing to cry. But today, we have a new message. You are wise if you cry immediately!
The Bible tells us that Israelites would suffer under neighboring oppressors because of their sins. When Israelites became unfaithful to God and left God, they became vulnerable to enemy attack.
Israelites would suffer under their enemies for many years. Israelites would continue suffering as slaves until when they cried to God for help. Immediately Israelites cried to God for help, God stepped in and sent a Judge whom He empowered to liberate them. Liberty came and suffering ended only when they cried to God. You are wise if you cry immediately!
Why did they take too long to cry so that help from God can come? First, it is because they had not associated their cry with God’s response of rescue. They didn’t know or they forgot that if you cry God comes to your rescue. If they had cried early they would have been saved earlier. You are wise if you cry immediately!
Secondly, they took a long time to cry because they were ashamed of turning to God whom they had disappointed. Shame and pride made them prefer suffering over crying. They knew they deserved the suffering. They felt ashamed to confess that they were wrong and that it was their pride and arrogance that were causing their pain. Therefore, for many years they suffered until wisdom prevailed and they cried to God. You are wise if you cry immediately?
Thirdly, they took too long to cry because they were rationalizing and thinking they could end their suffering by their own abilities or that in a short time it would be over. It took them too long to discover that they had no ability to end their suffering. It took them long to discover that only God could end their suffering. Therefore, it took them long to cry for help. You are wise if you cry immediately!
Exodus 3:7
The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
Israelites were only saved from Egypt after they cried to God for help. God only saves those who cry to Him. The longer you take to cry the longer you suffer. You are wise if you cry immediately!
It is possible our suffering today is prolonged because we haven’t cried for help. We haven’t cried for forgiveness. We haven’t cried for mercy. We haven’t cried in a confession of sin. How long will we suffer before crying for help? No help will come unless we cry. The longer we take to cry the longer we suffer. You are wise if you cry immediately!
The crying has to be to the right persons who can help. Above all, we must cry to God. If we cry to God He will help us. You are wise if you cry immediately!
Israelites like many of us wait for too long when we have deeply suffered then we turn to God. All that suffering would have ended if we had cried to God early enough. Dear God we have suffered to long, hear our cry today and save us, help us to remember that we need to cry immediately, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
