2 Kings 1:3
But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’
Isn’t that so severe? Die for breach of protocol? To breach protocol is to break protocol. To fail to follow the given protocol. A protocol is a system of doing things in an orderly way spelling clearly where to begin where to go through and where to end. To deviate from protocol is a breach of protocol. For breach of protocol, you will die!
The protocol includes strict procedures for conducting research. The protocol includes the order of introducing local leaders to a senior guest who has arrived. The protocol also includes the chain of command in an organization from the bottom top and top bottom. If any part of the procedure or leadership level is skipped, it will be considered a breach of protocol. For breach of protocol, you will die!
In many organizations worth their salt, the protocol is important. But in Banana republics and organizations, anyone can skip protocol and rush directly to the top chief, thereby defeating the productivity purpose of protocol. When protocol fails, it is not because protocol always fails, but because someone has failed to make it work in a particular place. Breach of the protocol in many organizations following best practices will cause you to be redirected to the procedures or levels of leadership you skipped. A warning may be given verbally or in writing. Among disciplined forces, it can attract severe punishment. Breach of the protocol can easily be regrettable, but hardly attracting the death penalty. For breach of protocol, you will die!
God has a protocol. God’s protocol is that whatever it is He should know first. He should be given the first opportunity to try and address any issue. Until He tells you otherwise, only He our God, is to be consulted first in all good and bad times. To consult any other person or to prioritize them over God is a breach of protocol. For breach of protocol, you will die!
Ahaziah king of Samaria had a serious injury after falling from the upper floor of his palace, 2 Kings 1:2. The injury was getting worse and the king feared for his life. Ahaziah summoned messengers and asked them to go and inquire from the god of Ekron. He wanted the god of Ekron to tell him if he will recover or not. Remember Ahaziah knew the protocol of the God of Israel who is the God of the Bible, that everything begins and ends with Him. But Ahaziah breached the protocol and sent messengers to another god and ignoring the God of heaven. For breach of protocol, you will die!
As the messengers left to go to Ekron, they met Elijah the prophet. Elijah asked them, “isn’t there a God in Israel whom you can consult, instead of going to the god of Ekron?” 2 Kings 1:3. In essence, Elijah was accusing them of breach of protocol. You should have started with the God of Israel and until He says otherwise you stick to Him. They had breached protocol. For breach of protocol, you will die!
Elijah tells them that the breach of protocol will be very costly. For breach of protocol, the king will die, 2 Kings 1:3-4. For breach of protocol, his wives will be widows and his children fatherless. For breach of protocol, the kingdom will be draughted and granted a new king. For breach of protocol, you will die!
How many times do we breach protocol? Do we tell God first and hang on Him as per protocol? Do we breach protocol by first texting our best friend before telling God? Do we breach protocol by first posting it on social media before you praise God or vent your frustrations? Do we breach protocol? Breach of protocol seems a small matter but it cost Ahaziah his life. While God may have not killed us instantly but punishment will surely come. We should be concerned about a breach of protocol in your house and life.
When you face a serious problem who do you go to first? If the answer is not God, I will ask you the question Elijah asked this king. Is it because there is no God? Is that why you tell social media first? Is that why you tell your brother first? Is that why you reach out to government authorities first? Is it because there is no God? Do you now realize that not telling God is breach of protocol?
If you have good news, what is your reaction and who do you tell first? You are supposed to praise God and ascribe everything to Him. Whether you know it or not, God is behind your success. Does success, profit, wealth, make you reluctant and withdrawn on spiritual matters? Do you now avoid worship because of some success? Are you now too busy to follow what God said? Do you realize God who gave you success can also take it? When you celebrate and explain your success without mentioning God, do you realize it is breach of protocol? You have praised the concept of working hard and perseverance. You have explained patience. You have explained strategies. What about God? Is it because there is no God? Do you realize your response to your success is breach of protocol?
Dear God, forgive me for the breach of protocol. Teach me to stick to the given protocol, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
