Hosea 7:7 – All of them are hot as an oven; they devour their rulers. All their kings fall, and NONE OF THEM CALLS ON ME.
Hosea 7:11 – “Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless— NOW CALLING TO EGYPT, now turning to Assyria.
Hosea 7:14 – THEY DO NOT CRY OUT TO ME from their hearts but wail on their beds. They slash themselves, appealing to their gods for grain and new wine, but THEY TURN AWAY FROM ME.
Hosea 7:16 THEY DO NOT TURN TO THE MOST HIGH; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
In Hosea chapter seven God complains against Israel. God has a barrage of complaints against His people. What catches our attention today is that God is concerned that His people don’t call Him!
Imagine you have a very powerful mobile phone. You have network connectivity. You have friends and relatives. You know they are calling many other people including those who harm them, but they don’t call you. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
Imagine you have children who depend on you. You buy them phones so that they can call on you anytime. You make sure the phones have all resources your children will need to contact you. Then you discover they are calling enemies to our family, but they don’t call you. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
The communication channel you created was for them to call you. They have the communication channel. It is in good working state, but they don’t call you. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
You have an intimate partner. Your partner spends a lot of time on their phone all the time. Yet you never receive any calls from them when you are away. Isn’t it concerning that they call everyone else frequently but they don’t call you? His concern is that you don’t call Him!
Prayer is a communication system created by God. God created this system so that in good times and bad times we can call on Him. He expects our calls through prayer. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
God complains that Israelites are calling Egyptians. Egyptians are enemies who once enslaved them. Yet Israel is naively making friendly calls to Egypt. But they don’t call on God who has been their help for ages eternal. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
God has observed Israelites going through serious problems. God had solutions for them. He was ready to help them. He was waiting for their call. But they turned away. They didn’t cry out to God. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
Imagine you have communication openly available with the highest possible authority, yet when in trouble, you choose to suffer or call on small people who can’t help. God wonders about Israel – why didn’t they call on THE MOST HIGH? You have access to the MOST HIGH GOD and you ignore Him? His concern is that you don’t call Him!
Jeremiah 29:12 – Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Jeremiah 33:3 – ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
Matthew 7:7 – “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Throughout scripture God repeatedly asks us to call Him. Call Him in good and bad times. What is shocking is that we don’t call Him, even when we are stranded and He can help. His concern is that you don’t call Him!
Will you call Him by attending worship? Will you call Him through personal prayers? Will you call Him through a life dedicated to Him? His concern is that you don’t call Him!
When you are happy, please call Him and your happiness will be sustainable. When you are going through hard time, call Him, and He will give you a solution or perseverance and peace of mind. He just wants you to call Him. In the name of Jesus, I will call Him daily and all the time. Amen!
