Malachi 2:2
If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me.
The sign of Christian maturity is a willingness to accept a word from God even when it doesn’t pamper us. It is immature and unchristian to be selective on what we listen from God. To only be excited about good promises from God is not a sign of faith. God makes good promises and also warns. We must take time to study the warnings too. God allows good things to happen but can also allow things to go wrong and ultimately turn it into a blessing. We should not be selective on what excites us from the word of God.
Job 2:10
He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”
In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Whatever comes from God we should accept. The good and the bad. Scriptures are not meant to just excite and pamper us. Scriptures also correct, rebuke and train. To be rebuked is not a nice thing, but scriptures do that. Should we say no “Amen” when rebuked and then shout “Amen” when blessed? That is a sign of being a very poor and terrible Christian. Whatever scriptures say to us, both what we like and what we do not like will ultimately be for our good. Both sweet and bitter medication is eventually good for us. If we only take the sweet medicine and leave the bitter, we will never recover. This could be the reason why some people are stuck in their faith. They have not taken all the medications, they only take the sweet.
Hebrews 12:7-11
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline —then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
We must respond with excitement and hope to any word from God. We should not be selective about what we are excited about, because the good and the bad eventually becomes a blessing to us.
In our text today, God speaks through Malachi the prophet. God says He will turn blessings into curses. God says He can change what is good and nice now to be painful and regrettable. That means our blessings are sustained by God. Blessings are only blessings because God has let them be blessings. Blessings are not permanent blessings.
When we get blessed we sometimes think we have made it. We wrongly think that blessings are irreversible. After making it with big blessings, we forget God, yet He is the one who sustains blessings. We forget God, yet He is the one who prevents blessings from turning into curses. That is why we must be warned today that blessings can reverse into curses. Be careful how you deal with God after blessings.
Wealth can become poverty or a source of wrangles and misery. A high position can be taken away or it becomes the source of heartache. Employment can become joblessness or the beginning of trouble. Unless God favors your blessings, they can change into curses. The best friend can become the worst betrayer. Blessings can turn into curses. You need God more when you are blessed than ever before, for He is the one who sustains the blessings.
Treat people well when you are blessed. Blessings are not permanent even when they look permanent. No one has made it in life in an irreversible way. Do not treat people as if tables will never turn. When tables turn you will be in their position and they will be in your position. Be nice and kind to people when blessed. Wealth goes. Good relationships that we to taunt the lonely can become very painful until we prefer loneliness. No blessings are permanent except by the will of God.
God tells the priests in our text today that He can, He will and He has turned their blessings into curses. This is because they did not honor God. God tells them, they must resolve to honor God, or else everything intended to be a blessing will become a curse.
Being a priest required certain unchangeable things like being born in the tribe of Levi. God says He can reverse even permanent blessings. The income of a priest was a blessing. The status of a priest was a blessing. Everything about priests was a blessing. But God warns that, if priests do not honor Him, their seemingly permanent blessings will suddenly become a bitter curse.
When we get blessed we should not forget God, He is the sustainer of blessings. When we get blessed we should not ignore people or mistreat them, no blessings are permanent even when they look like they are permanent. Our relationship with God and people must remain good whether we are blessed or not,

Profound! God, I pray that I may discern that you are the Provider and Sustainer of blessings, lest I think it is by my own efforts and the same blessings become a curse unto myself and others.
