Philippians 4:11
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
If We Learn This, We have learnt The Best Lesson

The best lesson is a lesson that has great benefits to the learner and the community he or she lives in. The best lesson should be availed to everyone. If we learn what is in the Bible text today, we would have learnt a very important and excellent lesson in life.
If a lesson is best, it means there are other lessons which are good and some are better. Good, better and best! However, take note that this is the best lesson to ever learn. It is a lesson whose usefulness and effectiveness cannot be gain said. It is a good lesson for ourselves and for others.
This lesson dubbed the best, emerges in the book of Philippians. A church that supported Apostle Paul’s missionary activities. Paul thanks them for their material support. However, Paul is quick to clarify in our text today that the appreciation is not intended to cause them to give more material help.
Apostle Paul addresses the attitude of those who feel like all that church leaders need is money. Paul gives a response to those who think that all the church does is for purposes of getting their money. Paul clearly says, I am not thanking you because I am in need and I need help.
Apostle Paul tells the church that he has learnt the best lesson in life. He has learnt to be content in all situations. Contentment is the best lesson in life. Contentment means circumstances do not change you. You remain the same person under all circumstances. If we learn this, we have learnt the best lesson in life!
When we have everything we need, we remain the same person. When we lack what we need, we remain the same person. We are contented. Our faith and attitude towards God, the church and the things of God doesnt change because we have or we lack. All situations do not affect our faith.
God is good all the time. When He answers our prayers and provides for us, He is good. When God is silent and we are sufdering even after praying and fasting, He is still good. That is contentment. If we learn this, we have learnt the best lesson in life!
We attend church and serve God passionately under all circumstances. Nothing changes in our attendance and passionate service. Whether we feel God’s favor is upon us or we feel God hasn’t favored us. We are content in all situations. If we learn this, we have learnt the best lesson in life!
In the marriage vow, we make a promise of contentment. We promise that changing times and circumstances will not affect our relationship. In good times and bad times. In good health and sickness. In riches and poverty. Until death comes, nothing will change. We are contented with this partner. That is contentment and that is how we should relate to God and everything else. If we learn this, we have learnt the best lesson in life!
If we learn this lesson, we will not be moving rapidly from stressed to happy and back. We remain constantly the same. We have learnt contentment. We cannot be bribed by excess or hurt by lack. This is contentment. If we learn this, we have learnt the best lesson in life!
May God help to be contented in all circumstances, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
