Micah 7:8 – Don’t, enemy, crow over me. I’M DOWN, BUT I’M NOT OUT. I’m sitting in the dark right now, but God is my light (Message Bible)
Micah 7:8 – Do not gloat over me, my enemy! THOUGH I HAVE FALLEN, I WILL RISE. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.(NIV)
I am down means I have fallen, I have failed. I am down means things are not good for me now. I am not out means, It’s not over. There is still a chance for me to recover. I can still recover from this terrible situation.
Prophet Micah contrasts what sin does and what salvation does. In Micah 7:1-7 the prophet focuses on the damage sin has done. Then he shows what God’s salvation can do.
Sin has caused leaders to be corrupt. They conspire to do evil. Because of sin, you can’t even trust your family members. People are so selfish, corrupt and self-centeredness is the order of the day. Sin has corrupted close family relationships and it’s now marred with betrayal. Even within the society, church and family, you must watch your tongue. You can be misquoted with an intention that you get destroyed.
The situation caused by sin is so bad. The environment is now toxic. Everyone for himself or herself. God is so offended by the situation that He promises to punish Israel.
The enemies of Israel are excited. They have heard about the corrupt situation in Israel. They know a corrupt society will soon implode. They have also heard prophets promising divine punishment. Enemies are excited!
The words of our text today speak to the excited enemies. The words of our text today speak to enemies who will be used by God to punish Israel. Enemies who for a short time will gain victory over Israel.
Micah 7:8 – Don’t, enemy, crow over me. I’M DOWN, BUT I’M NOT OUT. I’m sitting in the dark right now, but God is my light (Message Bible)
Micah 7:9 – I can take God’s punishing rage. I deserve it—I sinned. But it’s not forever. He’s on my side and is going to get me out of this. He’ll turn on the lights and show me his ways. I’ll see the whole picture and how right he is.(Message Bible)
Micah 7:10 – And my enemy will see it, too, and be discredited—yes, disgraced! This enemy who kept taunting, “So where is this God of yours?” I’m going to see it with these, my own eyes— my enemy disgraced, trash in the gutter.(Message Bible)
God may use you to punish me, but after the punishment limited season is over, the same God, will save me from you the punisher. Therefore I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
Depending on how you will treat me when God uses you to punish me, you may be the next one to be destroyed forever. If you engage in excesses, you may suffer more after being used to punish me. Be careful what you do to me when God uses you to punish me. Any excesses will mean God will destroy you when I am recovering. Therefore don’t get excited at my unfortunate situation. I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
Salvation belongs to God. Anyone who has fallen, if they call on God, He will raise them up. No bad situation is permanent for a child of God. God may allow me to suffer briefly, but the same God will save me from that same suffering. Therefore I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
Micah 7:8 – Do not gloat over me, my enemy! THOUGH I HAVE FALLEN, I WILL RISE. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.(NIV)
Don’t get excited that my job is now gone, I will rise again. Don’t be excited that I have lost income, I will rise again. Don’t be excited that I am seriously sick, I will rise again. Don’t even be excited when I am dead, I will rise again. I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
Your excitement over my misfortune may cause you a worse punishment from God. I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise! The academic failure is not final, I will rise again. My physical body indisposition even with permanent scars, is not end of me, I will rise again. Therefore I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
I may have backsliden spiritually in a huge embarrassing way, but that is not damnation to hell, I have repented, and I will rise again. I don’t have friends, I am lonely, but I will rise again. I may not even have family, but I will rise again. Money may have run out, but I will rise again! Therefore I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise!
God’s salvation is able to save me from the worst situations. Therefore I am down but I am not out. Though I have fallen, I will also rise! In the name of Jesus, I will rise again! Amen!
