Exodus 8:29 – Moses answered, “As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the LORD, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh and his officials and his people. Only let Pharaoh be sure that he does not act deceitfully again by not letting the people go to offer sacrifices to the LORD.”
Exodus 8:30 – Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD,
Exodus 8:31 – and the LORD did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained.
Exodus 8:32 – But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go.
There were ten plagues in Egypt. That means there were ten attempts to get Israelites out of Egypt. That means there were ten requests to Pharaoh to let Israelites. Success came during the tenth attempt!
If success came during the tenth attempt, the lesson is clear, don’t give up! Keep trying. You may be on your second attempt, or eight, or ninth, don’t give up, during the tenth attempt it shall work out!
Naaman recovered from leprosy after bathing seven times. We all wish things would happen instantly, but in some cases, God has allowed a process of seven baths or ten plagues. Be patient in your dating failures. Be patient in your struggles to succeed academically and financially. Keep trying. Israelites succeeded during the tenth plague!
During the plagues of Egypt, Pharaoh under pressure of plagues, promised to release Israelites, but once relief came he changed his mind. This went on over and over again. God was patient. Moses was patient. They kept going back to Pharaoh and causing one plagues and he kept disappointing God and Moses. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
God patiently accepted when Moses told Him to stop the plague and give Pharaoh a relief. God saw Pharaoh disappointing His people. But God kept listening to the false promises of Pharaoh. God demonstrated patience. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
God didn’t get angry during the ten plagues. God flowed with the promise made today and promise broken the next day. This because God is patient. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
Moses kept going before Pharaoh even after being lied to. He patiently believed the next lie. He continued placing his request to Pharaoh who clearly wasn’t keen on releasing Israelites. Moses and Aaron by repeatedly visiting Pharaoh without giving up, exhibited patience. Had they given up earlier, they wouldn’t have reached the tenth plague that made a difference. Moses and Aaron, the people of God, were patient. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
It is possible we would have achieved a lot more but sometimes we give up too soon. We give up just before the victory. Patience is what we need to crack some problems and to achieve an elusive goal. If you belong to God, you need to be patient. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
“Don’t Quit” – Edgar A. Guest
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low but the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many failures turn about
When we might have won had we stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
You can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit – rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns.
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow – you may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor’s cup;
and he learned too late when the night came down,
how close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out – the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and when you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems afar;
so stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit – it’s when things seem worst, you must not quit.
The poem tells us not to quit. Be patient, hang in there. You ma be too close at the point of giving up. Be as patient as God. Be as patient as Moses and Aaron. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Galatians 5:23 – gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Patience, or forbearance is a fruit of the Spirit. All believers must all all of the virtues under the fruit of the Spirit. When God’s Spirit controls us, we will be patient among many other things. We need patience. God is patient, His people are patient, are you patient?
Dear God make me patient. May I be as patient as you are. May I be as patient as saints recorded in the Bible. Make me patient and may the patience bear fruits to your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
