Acts 7:17 – “As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased.
Acts 7:18 – Then ‘a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.’
Acts 7:19 – He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.
Labor pain is the pain experienced immediately before and during child birth. When an expectant mother starts feeling the labor pain, it means the child is about to be born. Labor pain means the child is being born now. A child that has been anticipated for nine months is now here. The pain carries good news. May this pain be labor pain!
Pain is not good. It hurts. Pain causes one to cry. Pain causes one to be in agony. Yet the Labor pain ushers in the anticipated news. May this pain be labor pain!
Israelites lived in Egypt for many years peacefully. God was waiting for them to be ready to go into the Promised Land. They need experience and they needed to grow in numbers. When they were almost ready for the Promised Land, Egyptians started persecuting them. They were made slaves. They suffered greatly. That suffering was labor pains preceding their deliverance from Egypt to the Promised Land!
Genesis 3:16 – To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you. ”
Labor pain is very severe yet it carries good news. Israelites suffered greatly but it was ushering in great freedom and joy. Their suffering was labor pain leading to delivery of those desired hope. May this pain be labor pain!
Psalms 30:5 – For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Weeping is a sign of pain but it only lasts for the night. The night may be dark and starless but shortly afterwards morning breaks. It’s darkest before dawn. It’s painful before the child is born and during the birth. May this pain be labor pain!
There is a song that encourages us through pain. We should not give up because the pain we are experiencing could be ushering in the life we have desired. The following lyrics of the song tells us to never give up in time of pain.
There are days I know when
you get so discouraged,
It seems that all hope is gone.
But there’s only One who
can give you courage
And strength to carry on.
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
It’s the darkest just before dawn.
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
Never give up, keep holding on!
This old world I know
can’t last much longer,
And sin will soon pass away.
But my faith in God simply
keeps growing stronger,
For Jesus is coming some day!
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
It’s the darkest just before dawn.
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
Never give up, keep holding on!
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
It’s the darkest just before dawn.
Never give up, Jesus is coming.
Never give up, keep holding on!
Keep holding on
May the pain we are experiencing today be ushering in something better in our lives. May this pain be the darkness before dawn. May this pain be the labor pain of the birth of a long anticipated dream. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
