Daniel 5:8
Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant.
Daniel 5:14-15
(14) I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. (15) The wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it.
God sent a message of judgment to king Belshazzar. The message was clearly written on the wall at a place where he could see. The word of God was clearly availed to the king, but he couldn’t understand it.
The Bible is God’s word to us. It is available. We can get it in many languages and we can even download it for free online. While it is clearly available, do we understand it?
While the word of God was clearly written on the wall and everyone could see it, yet, there was a problem. None of the king’s wise people could read it nor understand it. The word of God is not understood best by the wisdom of this world.
King Belshazzar had the best team of very educated people, wise men, and advisors with many years of experience, yet, they couldn’t read nor understand God’s word to the king. God’s word requires a spirit-filled servant of God to read and interpret it.
You cannot put people on your payroll who will help you understand God’s word. God’s word may be understood and interpreted for you by people you despise. God decides to whom He reveals His will. You can manage and dictate other people of all professions, but God’s word will always come through someone who God is pleased with and not necessarily your choice of the person.
You can have the Bible at home and be armed with sophisticated commentaries and other books, but without the Holy Spirit’s guidance, you will have no better understanding than those who don’t attend worship. You can be trained in Theology and Religion but God can bypass you to empower someone else to read and interpret His word to you and others. You can know too much about the church and even be a member of the inner circle but you will need a preacher to understand God’s word for you.
2 Chronicles 18:6-7
(6) But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?”
(7) The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”
“The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.
Ahab hated the prophet God had chosen. God refused to speak through the prophets that Ahab hired. God used the prophet that Ahab hated. God’s word to you can only come in terms dictated by God and through whom God prefers and not your preference. Your hate of a prophet does not prevent God from using that prophet to reach you. David received a message through Nathan. There were other prophets but God chose Nathan.
Ahab hated Elijah, but it was Elijah that stopped the rain and later on brought it back by God’s power. If we are humble we will hear God’s voice. If we are humble we learn God’s will very quickly. We must just let God speak to us through whom He wishes and in the method He chooses.
You may be great, mighty, and feared, but you will still need someone you most likely despise for you to know God’s will. Be humble and learn from God, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
