Ephesians 3:8
Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ,
This is Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus. It’s a short but fully packed letter. The few chapters cover deep and wide subjects of consideration. Apostle Paul addresses the fact that Christianity ends the hostility between the Jew and Gentile, Ephesians 2:19. The gospel reconciles the two communities that were permanently opposed to each other.
In our chapter today, the Apostle explains God’s plan of salvation for the Gentiles. He reminds them that he was chosen to be an Apostle to the Gentiles. After that, he goes into a detailed explanation of how God’s grace has made a difference for everyone and particularly himself.
God’s grace is the undeserved favor that God has done for all of us in order to save us. God’s grace is the forgiveness we didn’t ask for and didn’t deserve but it was availed for us to accept. God’s grace is the price that was paid for us to acquire what we couldn’t afford but seriously needed.
Apostle Paul tells us that even his ministry of preaching was by God’s grace. In our text today he tells us that he is the least among the least of Christ’s disciples, yet even in that low position, God granted him the grace to preach to gentiles. When he least deserved the gift and power to preach he got it. This is granted to the unqualified.
God is so good and kind and He gives everything graciously. When we think we can’t afford or deserve it, God steps in and grants it to us. When we accept to believe in God, we do not make demands or conduct ourselves as if we deserve anything. This is granted to the undeserving!
We who belong to God work hard, but the difference with others is that we get more than what we deserved. We are not lazy people interested in free things, no. We are hard-working people who keep getting more than what they deserve and this realization makes us stand in awe of God.
We respect each other because none of us deserves anything from God. We do not brag because what we have is beyond our ability to acquire. We are always praising God because He has done too much for us that we can’t help but praise. This is granted to the unqualified!
May we get to appreciate God’s grace and forever change our perception, attitude, and conduct, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
