Ephesians 4:28
Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
At what point does one turn in the right direction? As believers, we listen to God’s word and God’s voice, and many times we discover we are on the wrong path and we need to turn. Many of us struggle to turn but we do not turn. many of us wish to turn, but we do not turn. Many of us eventually give up on turning until the next message from God prompts us again to turn. Our greatest desire, therefore, is to know where exactly do we turn.
Paul tells the Ephesians that once a thief discovers that stealing is wrong and sinful they should respond to that knowledge by stopping the stealing. Just stop stealing. This is the turning point. If you stop stealing you may possibly slide back and steal again. You may not maintain the life after the theft. All that is in the future. Do not worry about the future, because that would discourage your present action. You have discovered now that stealing is wrong, stop it now. Do not worry that tomorrow you will slide back, just stop now. This is the turning point!
Once God has spoken, there must be a human response to God’s word. God cannot speak to you to stop stealing then you again pray that God responds to Himself. It is you to respond to God. God will bless and empower the human response when it runs out of the God-given ability to bear the new decision. If God says stop stealing, you respond by stopping now. God will empower the decision you have made. The turning point is your response to what God has revealed to you. Stop stealing now as a response to God. This is the turning point!
Obedience to God’s word triggers divine power to come into our lives. Ten lepers were told to go show themselves to the Priest, Luke 17:14. When they responded to God’s command by starting the journey to meet the priest yet they were still leprous, God blessed their decision and they recovered instantly. Power from God came to them when they responded to God’s word. Healing came after their response. Our response to God’s command, God’s word, is the turning point that will open floods of blessings and power to us. This is the turning point!
When God says stop stealing, you will not be able to stop by your own power, but you must use your God-given decision-making power to respond to God’s word. That human response will trigger divine empowerment to come to your life. This is the turning point. When we hesitate to respond to God, we harm ourselves, we deny ourselves privileges, blessings, and power. We hesitate because we rationalize matters that require a faith response. If we respond and act by faith, God will take over and lead us to a new successful new life. Your response to God is the turning point!
When you stop stealing it is not just a pretense, you mean it. The thief stops stealing, and the Bible says he gets a job. That means the act of stopping comes with everything that entails stopping. The theft was a source of income, now a job is a source of income. That is what it means you stop stealing. Not just empty words but actions that are humanly possible. When you do this, God empowers you and the desire to steal goes and the job you are doing becomes satisfactory. The turning point is to do everything humanly possible in response to God’s word. It takes faith but this is the turning point!
The man who was sick for thirty-eight years was told to take up his mat and walk John 5:8. The human part was taking up the mat and walking, the divine part was to effect healing after the human response. The human response comes first and the divine power follows in haste. Another blind man was anointed with mud then told to go and wash in the pool of Siloam, John 9:6-7. Healing depended on the human response to the divine command. Blind Bartimaeus was told to state what he wanted before healing took place, Mark 10:51-52. Human response to God is the turning point!
Do you need to turn? Has God made it clear to you to turn? Turn from alcohol, turn from cigarettes, and other drugs that are destructive and addictive? Do you need to turn from an abusive relationship? Do you need to turn from a relationship that abounds with fornication and adultery? Do you need to turn from arrogance and pride? Do you need to turn from hate and discrimination? Do you need to turn from laziness and inability to use money properly? Do you need to turn from erratic church attendance? The turning point is a human response to what God has made clear to you. This is the turning point!
If God has made Himself clear to you, then act on God’s word and blessings will come your way. Change friends, bid them goodbye, get new contacts, and move to a new location they do not know. God will bless that human effort. End a bad relationship and leave immediately, God will bless and empower that human decision. Replace time in which you used to drink alcohol, smoke, and abuse drugs, replace that time with other compelling activities. God will bless human response to His word. This is the turning point!
Do not worry about the future, how you will feel, and the probability of failing and sliding back. Do your part and ask God to protect you. When it comes to overcoming sin, do not be afraid to burn bridges, you should not reserve a bridge back to sin. Do everything within your power to respond to God’s word and ensure humanly possible that you do what God wants. Where human ability ends, God’s power picks up in power and blessings. This is the turning point!
Dear God, bring me to the turning point, and may I find grace to do my human part in responding to what you have made clear to me, and consequently, may blessings and divine power be manifested in my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
