6:12 I’m tired of the violent rich bullying their way with bluffs and lies. (Message Bible)
6:13 I’m fed up. Beginning now, you’re finished. You’ll pay for your sins down to your last cent. (Message Bible)
6:14 No matter how much you get, it will never be enough— hollow stomachs, empty hearts. No matter how hard you work, you’ll have nothing to show for it—bankrupt lives, wasted souls. (Message Bible)
6:15 You’ll plant grass but never get a lawn. You’ll make jelly but never spread it on your bread. You’ll press apples but never drink the cider. (Message Bible)
Israelite elites were wallowing in ill-gotten wealth and they hoped God will forget how they got it. They used corrupt means to get rich, now they had wealth and they hoped that God will ignore how they got it. Would God forget or ignore how they acquired their wealth?
God tells them through prophet Micah that He will not ignore nor forget how they corruptly acquired their wealth. God tells them He knows every wrong thing they did to acquire what they have. God does not ignore nor forget.
God tells them, I know how you got the treasure. God tells them I know how you built your house and the source of income. It may be many years later and you no longer steal, and everyone believes it’s genuine wealth. God sends prophet Micah to tell them I will not ignore nor forget.
We got a job because someone who deserves was denied. The one who deserved didn’t know anyone. It’s now long ago since it all happened. God says I will not ignore nor forget.
You lied to your spouse about some facts, but now you are married. It was a serious issue but it has calmed down and seems forgotten. You lied about having children out of wedlock. You lied about your age. You lied about your previous life. You lied about your academic abilities or even wealth. You lied about someone so that they were rejected and you were accepted. Whatever it is, the lie caused your partner to accept you. Now it’s long gone but God says I will not ignore nor forget.
You have made progress with false qualifications. It is no longer an issue. The dust about it has settled. God says I will not ignore and I will not forget.
You won a case in court through a dishonest process. You were guilty of wrong doing but the law favored you. You live happily as if you were vindicated. You may even have been awarded money or children or property or whatever it is. The court vindicated you but God has not. God says He will not ignore or forget what happened!
You made wealth by lying to someone. You took advantage of someone’s ignorance. Someone lost greatly for you to win greatly. They suffered and cried as you celebrated. It’s been a while now and nobody remembers. God says He will not ignore nor forget.
Just once, you visited a witch doctor. Just once and you used powers of darkness to solve a problem. It’s now long forgotten. God says He will not ignore nor forget!
God says He will bring a punishment for what has been long forgotten. God will frustrate the lives of sinners. They will find no peace or joy because of the wrong things they did and hopped God will ignore and forget. They will enjoy nothing. They will achieve nothing. They will strive and do their best but get nothing. God does not ignore nor forget.
Luke 19:8 – But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Zacchaeus only found peace when he addressed what he thought had been ignored or forgotten. He addressed the poor he ignored. He addressed the people he cheated for him to be rich. That is how he found peace. Zacchaeus discovered God does not ignore nor forget.
The good news is that God did not say He won’t forgive. He said He won’t ignore nor forget because it hasn’t been repented. Don’t expect the matter to end without confession and repentance. Until you confess and repent, it will affect you now or anytime in future after everyone has forgotten, because God doesn’t ignore nor forget.
Where possible reconcile with those you hurt. Most importantly seek God’s forgiveness. Only when you confess and repent is when God will forget.
Dear God save us from things we thought you will ignore and forget. May be we hurt someone so bad they cried to you and we thought it’s over. Remind us these things and lead us to confession and repentance. Forgive us and save us from its consequences, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
