Song of Songs 2:15
Catch for us the foxes,
the little foxes
that ruin the vineyards,
our vineyards that are in bloom.
The man in this love story and love song, tells his beloved lady that there are little foxes that need to be caught and stopped. Those Foxes are guilty of ruining vineyards. His message to her is, catch those little Foxes!
These foxes have not just ruined any vineyard, they have ruined our vineyard. Not just our vineyard, but our vineyard when it is blooming, surely! How can the little foxes be allowed to cause such damage? Catch those little foxes!
Whatever it is, whether real foxes or foxes symbolize problems, they are an unwelcome nuisance. How can they interrupt love? Why do they destroy blooming vineyards? Catch those little foxes!
Foxes are representatives of things that come into relationships and ruin relationships. The vineyard is the love between the two, the man and woman. The blooming vineyard is love at its peak and most exciting moments. Little foxes are small things that are easily ignored but have a huge potential to ruin the project of love. Catch those little foxes!
If the Song of Songs is interpreted as love between Christ and the Church, the little foxes are the things that tempt us to abandon faith. They are little but they cause us to backslide. They are little but they interfere with our prayer life and Bible study. They are little but they make us erratically attend worship. The little foxes are steadily driving us to hell away from Christ. Catch those little foxes!
In relationships, the little foxes could be some habits that irritate your loved one. Little foxes could be communication problems. Little foxes could be money problems. Little foxes could be other friends who have become a competition for the one we pledged to love. Little foxes could be careless interaction with an ex or potential mates. Little foxes could be bad manners such as never keeping your word or failing to be available on phone or not returning calls.
The little foxes are ruining vineyards, our vineyard. Ruining our vineyard when it is blooming. Those little foxes will kill the project we have together. Catch those little foxes!
This passage on catching little foxes could have been a song he was quoting for his love. Little foxes while carnivorous, still can ruin vineyards. They chew stems and kill tender trees. Being carnivores they seem harmless, but eventually, they ruin vineyards.
What innocent little foxes are you tolerating in your walk with Jesus? What little foxes are you defending in your relationship with your loved one? They seem harmless but they are destructive. Catch those little foxes!
Catch them! Control them. Stop them. Take an initiative. Do something about it. Do not just be quiet. Act against these little foxes. Catch those little foxes!
Who is to initiate the catching? The man addresses the fox problem to the lady. When you notice foxes ruining your vineyard, do not be quiet, inform your loved one. Many are suffering because they can’t express themselves about the little foxes they noticed. The man informs the lady. The couple must take initiative to catch the little foxes. It is you to call on God for help. It is you to seek counseling. It is you to apologize. It is you who should want then act to cath those little foxes. Catch those little foxes!
Many people are losing their faith relationship with God because of little foxes. Many people have ruined their relationship with each other because of little foxes. Catch those little foxes!
May God enable us to catch the little foxes, in our relationship with him and with each other, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
