Job 9:2-4 (NIV) – 2 “Indeed, I know that this is true. But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God? 3 Though they wished to dispute with him, they could not answer him one time out of a thousand. 4 His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?
If you have issue with God. If you are unhappy with God. If you have a case against God. If you want to challenge God on how He runs this world. The best advice from a man who felt he had a case against God, is just surrender!
Job suffered immensely. Job felt he had a case against God for his suffering. Job wanted to meet God and question Him for allowing all these suffering to come his way. However, Job concludes that no one can summon God or win against God. The best one can do is surrender.
Surrender means let God do as He pleases. Surrender means let God lead you even when you do not understand how or where to. Surrender means trust. Surrender means you acknowledge your limitations. Surrender means you agree God is great and better than you and you are safer in His direction.
Job 9:4 (NIV) – His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?
God is wiser than anyone and everyone. You can’t win against God through scholarly writing and arguments. You can’t win against God through logical arguments. You can’t be so wise to fix God and prove Him wrong. You can’t win against give lectures and write books against God but He remains wiser and superior to all of us. God will keep raising wiser people who will prove you wrong or your own arguments will not make sense to you. If you have issues with God, just surrender!
There is no wisdom greater than God. No one has an argument that can silence God. Whatever argument one has, there is response that silences from the Bible. Whatever argument one comes up with, was already responded to in history. Why does a good God allow evil in His world? Why does God allow the innocent to suffer? Can we prove the existence of God? All these questions and many others have comprehensive answers. There is no wisdom that succeeds against God. The best is to surrender!
Job 9:5-6 (NIV) – 5 He moves mountains without their knowing it and overturns them in his anger. 6 He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble.
God is stronger than us. His power is overwhelming. You can’t win against get into a fight with God. You can’t move a bag of cement yet He moves mountains. You have no chance against God, just surrender!
Job 9:11 (NIV) – When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.
We are limited to our senses. God operates outside the ability of our senses. He is beyond our capacity to see and perceive. The best we can do is to surrender.
Job 9:12 (NIV) – If he snatches away, who can stop him? Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’
We can’t question God on what He does. We can’t stop God when He does anything. We are at His mercy. The best is to surrender!
Job 9:24 (NIV) – When a land falls into the hands of the wicked, he blindfolds its judges. If it is not he, then who is it?
When bad leaders are in place, God allowed it. When injustice thrives, God allowed it. It may be so bad, but who else could stop or allow such things. God is not so helpless that He can’t stop bad leaders from rising to power. He can stop but He doesn’t. God can intervene when injustice takes place, but He doesn’t. Job asks, if it’s not God, who is it? It is possible we do not understand Him. It’s possible those we call bad leaders are not bad, it’s our perception that is bad. Therefore we surrender to what God has allowed because we can’t stop it!
Job 9:32-33 (NIV) – 32 “He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. 33 If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together,
Job concludes this chapter by surrendering. He says God is not mortal. He is not human nor our equal. We can’t win against Him. He also concludes that no one is greater than God to summon Him. God remains the greatest. The best we can do for our peace of mind and to learn in humility, is to surrender!
He is the potter we are the clay, He does what He wants. We can’t protest and succeed. We can’t win against Him. After trying everything you will discover what Job discovered- just surrender!
After Job surrendered, the same God who allowed suffering, brought him great prosperity. Just surrender. At the right time He will sort you out and fix your issues, since you can’t force Him, just surrender.
A song writer surrendered by the following lyrics.
Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter,
I am the clay.
Mold me and make me
after thy will,
while I am waiting,
yielded and still.
Another song writer surrendered by these other lyrics
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
A Surrendered mind that trusts God’s leadership is better for mental health, than a mind that fights a battle it can’t win. No wonder others have said – let God be God. May we find peace and happiness in surrendering to God. In Jesus name, Amen!
