Luke 4:42-44
(42) At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. (43) But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” (44) And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
The methods that work in the search for excellence are all around us but we don’t see them. They are hidden in plain sight. We all wish to know that which if we did, our life would get better. We have dreams and goals that seem elusive. We wish to know how others did it and how we too can do it and succeed.
Jesus lived a perfect and ideal life. Jesus never failed in His life. Jesus was not just human but also divine. Therefore any methods applied by Jesus would be failure-proof and divinely ordained. The Jesus method of success would be everyone’s recommended method. Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
Luke chapter four gives a scenario where Jesus applied a method that brings success when applied. Jesus had spent the previous day doing good. He healed the sick including Peter’s mother-in-law, Luke 4:38. As the previous day came to an end the crowds were still pressing to have an opportunity to see Jesus and get healed, Luke 4:40. He even cast out demons, Luke 4:41. What a busy day!
Productive people and successful people keep themselves busy. They stay long to make sure they have done as much as possible in a day. Jesus did not postpone anything that could be done. Keep yourself busy. Occupy yourself with productive activities. Be worried if you are idle and just hanging around. Have a goal, and have a list of activities you need to do in order to achieve your goal. Engage in those activities that contribute to achieving your goal. Seek help if you feel confused in goal development or activities development. Jesus was always very busy, get busy too! Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
After a very busy day, there is fatigue. We expect Jesus to sleep for long since He was genuinely tired. The Bible says, early the next morning Jesus went out, Luke 4:42. Most of the very successful people are like Jesus, they wake up very early in the morning. Nothing can beat or exchange the drive that comes with early rising. Clarity of mind and focus on goals become the way of life. Jesus always woke up very early to first pray and consolidate His thoughts and focus on the day, Mark 1:35. Jesus was busy and even slept late sometimes but He made it a habit to wake up early. Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
Jesus woke up early to go to a solitary place, Luke 4:42. Early morning hours must be personal. A meeting with yourself and your God. It is only when you are in one accord with yourself that you can meaningfully interact with others. Early morning is not time to chat on social media or catch up with the world news. Early morning hours are for reflection and planning. Early morning hours you pray and ask God to bless your plans and give you clarity on what to do. Early morning you resolve in your heart what to do and what not to do. Early morning you get affirmation that you have a good relationship with God and that He’s got your back as you face the day. Early morning is time to be alone with God. Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
The crowds looked for Jesus that morning and tried to convince Him to stay longer with them, but He refused Luke 4:42-43. Jesus reiterated His mission. Jesus spoke with a focus on His mission. Jesus said He had towns to go to. Jesus said this was not the only place He should preach. Jesus said there is work elsewhere to be done. Jesus said this preaching from place to place was why He came. Jesus said to settle down would be contrary to His mission. Jesus was so focused on His mission that no good or bad events could distract Him. Do not be distracted from your mission. Go for what you purpose to achieve. The secret from Jesus is that do not stop at any good or bad occurrences, keep going towards your goal. Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
When good things happen, we wish to linger longer and enjoy it, but that distracts us from the mission, therefore do not stop at the good. Enjoy as you go towards your goal. Do not stop. When bad things happen, we hang around in regret, mourning, and bitterness. We entertain bitterness and a complaining spirit. That distracts us from our goals. we should not stop. We should cry and mourn as we go towards our goal. Do not stop. Jesus refused to be stopped by the successful mission He had. Jesus refused to be stopped by the hospitality of the locals. Do not stop at any good or bad occurrences, keep going towards your goal. Jesus did this if you do it you excel!
How do you conduct your daily business? Do you use the methods Jesus used? Where do you fall short of the methods of Jesus? What would you want to improve on? Is it your prayer that you will conduct your daily activities as Jesus did? Do you wish to make these lessons practical in your life? May the methods and ways of Jesus Christ be ours too by His grace, Amen!
