Esther 9:28 (NIV) – These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city. And these days of Purim should never fail to be celebrated by the Jews—nor should the memory of these days die out among their descendants.
There is no celebration to remember the fall of Adam and Eve in sin. There is no forbidden fruit day. There is no ceremony to remember the first murder on earth, the murder of Abel. There is no ceremony to remember the death of Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, etc! Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Many terrible things have happened and the Bible doesn’t have ceremonies to remember those things. Painful memories that reignite pain but teach no lesson are not celebrated nor remembered. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
We do not have a ceremony to remember when Egyptians started enslaving Israelites, but we have Passover to celebrate their salvation from Egyptian slavery. Choose what you commemorate. Be very selective on what you choose to remember.
The book of Esther cited above has many painful stories. Several plots to have Jews exterminated. Yet the only celebration that was approved for Jewish people was their salvation from annihilation. Why didn’t they have ceremonies to remind them of their misfortunes? Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Bible based commemorations are on God’s provision and salvation. Positives are commemorated. We are admonished to remember the good things God has provided. We remember the fact that He saved us. We do not remember and recite our suffering over and over. We keep it positive. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Israel had three official ceremonies. All the three were celebrations done after harvest. Celebrating that God has provided income. These were high days. They were and still are positive. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Philippians 4:8 (NIV) – Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Choose what you think about. Choose what you keep reminding yourself. Choose if you want to keep re-living the pain or be relieved of the pain. As much as it depends on you re-live the positive and relieve the pain. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
If you break up a relationship or have a divorce, relieve the pain by doing away with all reminders of that person and pain. Do not mark a calendar so that reminders keep coming. Do not hang pictures on the wall so that you keep seeing. Do away as much as possible with gifts and whatever else reminds you. Dwell on the positive memories. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Some memories may automatically return because it’s part of the healing process or because we are traumatized. Know the difference and seek help if you feel stranded in pain. However, for what we can do something about, let us intentionally seek to relieve the pain and not to re-live it. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
In your life what highlights do you keep replaying? The good or the bad? In your marriage, do you replay the pains or the good times? What do you choose to keep bringing up. As much as it depends on you, be positive. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
May God save us from loss of loved ones. May God bring healing when loved ones are gone. May we remember the good life we lived with them and not focus on the moment and fact of loss. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Sometimes to maintain a positive mind we dispose reminders. We change houses. We move from one town to another or even to another country. Sometimes it’s the people and environment that triggers negative memories. Move on and live a quality life for the short time we have on earth. Isn’t it a waste to spend your short life stuck on a memory of someone who also has a short life? Live your life and make it positive and happy. Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Israelites had many negative experiences in their history but they highlighted and commemorated the positives. By doing so they transmitted positive energy around the community and to future generations. You become what you are obsessed with. Your obsession becomes your chosen reality. Is it positive or negative? Is it a good memory or pain? Choose what you commemorate carefully, it will define you!
Dear God, grant us the energy to do away with negative memories that we have unfortunately held as dear to us. Help us overcome trauma. Give us a heart that heals and forgets the negatives and instead focuses on the positives. May our obsession be good memories of you our God and those of friends and family. May our obsessive thoughts shape a positive happy life for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Amen, this really worked for me, I left my country just to try to keep my mind positive and move on ,after the traumer of my brothers death but I would love to thank God that I feel am fine ,so now with this writing I can see that it was really a good step to be away of everything , amen
