Hebrews 4:2
For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.
Pepper and salt are small ingredients that make a big difference in food. The absence of pepper and salt is easily noticeable. One taste of food and you will know if there is pepper and salt. Just as you easily notice the absence of pepper and salt, its presence is equally noticeable. These are examples of small ingredients that make a big difference.
The Bible tells us today that Israelites received a highly valuable message but it was of no value to them because they lacked faith. Faith is a small ingredient but it makes a big difference. Lack of faith devalues and invalidates the biggest of promises. The presence of faith causes huge unbelievable things to happen. Faith is the small ingredient that makes a big difference!
Israelites were promised to inherit Canaan. This was fertile land. A land of milk and honey. A land whose inhabitants were tall and huge. When twelve spies of Israel brought the news about Canaan only Joshua and Caleb had faith that they will take over the land from those giants. The rest of the community murmured and complained that the task wasn’t achievable. For lack of faith, everyone died in the desert for a period of forty years except Joshua and Caleb. For forty years everyone who lacked faith died and their children grew up. The grown-up children, Joshua and Caleb entered Canaan and inherited it. Faith is the small ingredient that makes a big difference.
The promise was big, to inherit the Promised Land. The difference of whether it would happen or not depend on faith or lack of it. Faith is a very small ingredient that makes a big difference. If you lack faith it will make a big difference. If you have faith it will make a big difference.
A woman who was sick for twelve years and no doctors could treat her and help her heal came to Jesus. She had faith that if she just touches Jesus she would get well. On a crowded day when everyone was touching Jesus, this woman touched Jesus and she was healed. Others touched Jesus the whole day and they remained sick with their problems unsolved. What made a difference was that this woman had faith. A small ingredient that makes a big difference!
There are so many promises in the Bible but only those with faith benefit from them. So many people listen to the preacher, but only those with faith go home inspired and rejuvenated. Faith is the small ingredient that makes a big difference. Its absence and presence make a big difference.
A life of certainty and hope is because of faith. A life of uncertainty fears and worries is because of a lack of faith. The economy around us may be the same, but those with faith live a better life. The environment in the world may be what it is but those without faith despair. What makes a big difference is the presence or absence of faith. Your view of life today and reaction to it depends a lot on your faith. A small ingredient that makes a big difference!
If you believe that God is powerful and able to fix anything, you have faith in Him. That means when you pray, you stop worrying about what is going on and you trust it shall be well. The opposite is true. Lack of faith is a desperate place to be. In the same environment where others thrive, others despair. Faith is a small ingredient that makes a big difference!
Does prayer time become boring and routine? It is a lack of faith that you are at a moment where you are speaking to God for whom nothing is impossible. If you have faith that prayer time is talking to the King of the Universe who is loving and able to sort out any mess, then prayer time would be a powerful moment. The frequency of prayer and relief that comes after praying depends on faith. Our prayer life is what it is because of the presence or absence of faith. A small ingredient that makes a big difference!
Luke 17:5
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
If you realize the importance of faith, this prayer of the disciples will be your prayer too. Faith is so important and therefore my prayer is, dear God, increase our faith, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
