Ability To Enjoy

Ecclesiastes 6:2 – God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ABILITY TO ENJOY them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

Ecclesiastes 6:3 -A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, IF HE CANNOT ENJOY his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

Ecclesiastes 6:6 – even if he lives a thousand years twice over BUT FAILS TO ENJOY his prosperity. Do not all go to the same place?

If you can’t enjoy it’s not worth it. God gives ability to enjoy. God can deny someone ability to enjoy. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can have the best food in the best house but without ability to enjoy, it is not worth it. A poor person enjoying a cheap meal is better than a wealthy person who can’t enjoy the best meal ever. Without ability to enjoy, our best efforts are futile. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

The Bible text today is clear that inability to enjoy is the worst thing that can happen. Lots of wealth without ability to enjoy? Children, family and good health symbolized by long life, are worthless without ability to enjoy. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can rise up in power. You can be the most powerful and dreaded ruler. You can be what you want to be. You can serve as long as you want. You can have all the trappings of power, big titles, servants, favors, honor, etc. However, without ability to enjoy, a young child who is a class leader in a small class in a small school and enjoying is better than you. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can amass wealth. You can have everything that money can buy. You can access and afford anything and everything you want. Yet without ability to enjoy, your efforts are wasted. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can have the spouse that everyone desires. You can have children who are thriving accordingly. An ideal family that lacks nothing. Yet if you lack the ability to enjoy, you will never find satisfaction. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

The best boyfriend without ability to enjoy the relationship? The best girlfriend without the ability to enjoy the relationship? Being treated well, loved and pampered but you are unable to enjoy? What can be worse than inability to enjoy? We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can pursue the most desired course of study. You can get desired grades in school. You can be in the most enviable profession in life. You can be a top achiever in your discipline. You can even win the Nobel Prize. Yet without ability to enjoy, all your achievements mean nothing to you. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can be a celebrity. Known and loved. Yet without ability to enjoy, you are left lonely and empty. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

We can’t remain sinful and expect that God will give us the ability to enjoy. We can’t acquire things and relationships sinfully and expect that God will grant us the ability to enjoy. We must rectify our relationship with God if we are to enjoy anything. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

Ability to enjoy puts value into everything. Without the ability to enjoy, everything and everyone loses value. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

You can’t purchase the ability to enjoy. You can’t have it unless God gives it to you. We must pray for the ability to enjoy which only God can give.

Dear God forgive us for wanting things and even sinfully going after them, and in the process forgetting you. Grant us the ability to enjoy the long life You give us. Grant us the ability to enjoy relationships that You give us. Grant us the ability to enjoy the assignments and property You give us. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
