He Didn’t Let Them Don’t Let Them

2 Kings 2:3
The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”

Elisha was following Elijah who had appointed him a prophet to replace him, 1 Kings 19:19-20. As Elisha followed Elijah, there were attempts to discourage him from following Elijah. There were attempts to dampen his mood. Elisha didn’t let them discourage him nor dampen his mood. He didn’t let them don’t let them!

2 Kings 2:2
Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

2 Kings 2:4
Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the LORD has sent me to Jericho. ”
And he replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.

Elijah several times tried to discourage Elisha from following him. But Elisha was determined to keep going after Elijah. Elisha didn’t allow Elijah to slow him down or even change his mind. Elisha was so determined that not even Elijah could change his mind.

When you are very clear on what you want, no one will discourage you. He or she who is clear on what they want to achieve, what they are going after, will be unstoppable. We easily get derailed by others because our goals are not clear to ourselves.

2 Kings 2:5
The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”

Elisha had one clear goal. He wanted to be by the side of Elijah his mentor under all circumstances. Elisha didn’t entertain discouragement or derailment. He focused on what he wanted.

What do you want that you are so focused on that you can’t be derailed? What dream are you pursuing at your work and business engagement that you can’t be derailed from? What relationship goals are you aiming at that no discouragement would be tolerated? On what spiritual goals have you locked your focus that you shall not be moved?

Without a dedicated focus, our health will fail, our spiritual lives will backslide, our finances will be loss after loss and studies will end in failure. As we pursue anything and everything in life we should do due diligence over time, after which we must, make up our minds and pursue our dreams by all means. We should tell off any discouragement as Elisha didn’t. Don’t let anyone discourage you. He didn’t let them don’t let them!

May God grant us a dedicated and unwavering focus on all aspects of goals in our personal and public life. May God grant us grace to survive personal attacks and general discouragements on our way to goal achievements. May we be as successful as Elisha of old, in Jesus’s, Amen!
