I Need This Type of Rest Urgently, Do You?

2 Samuel 7:11 – and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I WILL ALSO GIVE YOU REST FROM ALL YOUR ENEMIES. “‘The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you:

King David told Prophet Nathan that he wants to build a temple for God. Nathan quickly supported the idea and told David to carry on. However, that night, God revealed to Nathan that He loves David and has blessed him, but it’s not David who will build the temple.

Among the blessings God mentions to have given David, is a promise in our passage today to give David rest from all his enemies. What a blessing! Rest from all your enemies.

Enemies keep us busy. Enemies keep us worried. Enemies keep us awake when we should be sleeping. Enemies keep us constantly alert which drains us. Enemies make us tired mentally and physically. God tells Nathan that He will give David rest from all his enemies.

Enemies poke holes to everything you do. You can’t enjoy any achievements because of enemies. They also wait for you to make any mistake and then they magnify it out of proportion. This makes us tired of everything we do. God promises rest from all enemies.

Enemies who keep our spirits down and lower our self esteem. Enemies who stalk us on social media to haunt us with negative comments and insults. Enemies who celebrate loudest when we fail. God promises rest from all enemies!

Enemies from within the circle of fake friends. Enemies from within the family among relatives. Enemies from the work place or school, who we can’t avoid. Enemies from within the neighborhood. Enemies who are strangers going around in their personal pain to hurt others wantonly. Enemies we know and enemies we don’t know. God promises rest from all enemies.

God knows that enemies are draining. God knows that you are tired because of your enemies. God knows exactly the damage they have done. Therefore God promises to give rest from enemies!

Enemies beware! If God gives David rest from his enemies, what does that mean to them. It means God will weaken them, or kill them or change their focus or do whatever will cause them to stop being a nuisance to David. God knows you have hurt, irritated and drained David. God is coming for you. He will give David rest from your machinations.

May God grant us rest from all our enemies. God knows them and knows the damage they do. May the promise to David be ours too, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
