Qualities of A Good Worker-cum-Leader

Nehemiah was leader during the rebuilding of life back in Israel after seventy years in Babylonian captivity. In the heat of the work, he needed to appoint leaders he could work with to make the vision of an Israel community back in Jerusalem come true.

In our text today, the Bible says that Nehemiah chose his brother to help him. Nehemiah’s brother was Hanani. However, he appointed another man to work with his brother. Nehemiah gives a reason why he chose this other man. That other man was Hananiah. Why did Nehemiah choose Hananiah?

The Bible tells us today that Hananiah was chosen because he was a man of integrity. Integrity has been interpreted by other versions of the Bible to be, faithful, reliable, trusted and honest. These are qualities of a good leader and even a good worker. Do these words describe you and how you conduct yourself?

We must be men and women of integrity. We must be faithful to God, ourselves, our spouses, our work and even the faith we have committed to. Faithful people are great! We must be reliable. Those we work with and interact with, should find peace when a matter is entrusted to us because we are reliable. We should be known to be people who will go to any length to ensure the mission succeeds, that is what it means to be reliable. Are you reliable? Can people relating to you and working with you, say you are reliable?

We must also be trusted and honest. We are not thieves who want to use every opportunity to plunder and benefit ourselves. We should be trusted to do right even when we have an opportunity to do wrong. Are we honest? When we speak, are we honest? When we make decisions are we honest? When we make suggestions, are we honest or deceitful trapping others to harm them? Can we be said to be trustworthy and honest?

The Bible also tells us that this great weleader was God fearing. He respected God. That is not where he stopped. Compared to others people, he had a higher level of reverence for God. He was God fearing more than people around him. He respected God more than others.

Does your faith operate by copying others or being zealous for God in spite of the environment around? This great leader did not copy others or get influenced by others. His relationship with God was greater than that of others. May God make us outstanding believers like this man.

A great leader must be better than those he leads in order to inspire them. Rarely do people rise above their leader. As a leader set a higher pace for the people who follow you and work with you.

A great leader is a person of integrity. Integrity means faithfulness, reliability, trust and honesty. A great leader must be reverent and committed to God completely anymore than others. A leader sets a higher pace or a higher standard for those he or she leads. May God make us great leaders in Jesus’ name, Amen!
