There Is A Recommended Way of Life

Philippians 1:27
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

Every community has a recommended way of life that members must generally adhere to. The way of life of any people is based on their beliefs, experiences, and practices. Practices of cattle keepers will influence their way of life. Experiences of past generations will form the basis of the modern way of life. Experiences of the past when children could go to school at any age, causes communities to determine at what age children should go to school. That way of life is borne out of the experience.

The way of life of any people is also based on their beliefs. Interwoven with what they expect every day from everyone is their beliefs. Beliefs in God are interwoven in national anthems. Beliefs in God are part of the swearing-in ceremonies of leaders. Beliefs about women and girls determine whether they will be seen as equals and be set free in any society. Beliefs influence the preferred way of life.

Experiences and practices are common among many people and therefore from them, a common way of life emerges. However, beliefs depend on religious affiliation and faiths that people subscribe to. Some beliefs are seriously opposed to the Christian faith and others fit in well. When a way of life is based on beliefs that are opposed to Bible teachings, that way of life must be rejected by all Bible believers.

Since each community has its own way of life based on beliefs, experiences, and practices, we should note that Christianity is also a community of believers. Christianity has a way of life that is based on beliefs of what the Bible teaches. The way of life promotes the core beliefs.

Apostle Paul tells the church of the Philippians that they should conduct themselves in a manner that is befitting the Gospel of Jesus Christ that they believe in. That means their lifestyle, their way of life must be consistent with their beliefs. This is the recommended lifestyle of a Christian. Your way of life should not contradict your core beliefs. There is a recommended way of life!

When Paul tells them and us to follow the way of life that does not contradict scriptures, he is telling them and us that there is a recommended way of life. To live a life that is opposed to a recommended way of life is to reject the entire community. There is a recommended way of life!

The way of life entails what we eat and how we eat it. The way of life includes what is acceptable and what is prohibited. The way of life includes the type of music we use. The way of life dictates how we treat others generally. The way of life has to do with who and how we worship. How we dress is a matter that belongs to the way of life. Everything around our day-to-day living is determined by our way of life. There is a recommended way of life!

We should always search scriptures to establish our way of life on a particular matter. How we name the newborns, how we initiate them to adulthood, how we marry them off, and how we bury the dead are matters of the way of life. In many of the things around us daily there is a way of life to follow. There is a recommended way of life!

Christianity has a way of life that opposes many other ways of life that we may have subscribed to. Christianity agrees with very few other ways of life in certain points. Therefore a good Christian must and should cut ties with past ways of life that now contradict their faith. There is a recommended way of life!

Dear God, help us to live according to the recommended way of life. May we be daily Bible students so that we daily learn what You expect from us. May we make it a habit to attend worship and listen to lessons and sermons that give us a way of life for a believer. Help us to be faithful to what we learn and know, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
