Philippians 1:19
for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
If something has already happened, isn’t that past and unchangeable? We are told the past is forever gone, tomorrow may never come and so we only got today to do anything meaningful. The emphasis is that we can do nothing about the past. If something bad happens, can you change what has already happened?
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
While something wrong is happening to me, God changes it to be a blessing to me. We love this text because of the fact that an ongoing bad situation can change to something good by God’s power. However, our focus today is not about an ongoing situation changing, but a situation that already happened and is settled changing. Can a past already happened and settled situation change?
Apostle Paul tells the Church in Philippi that he knows through their prayers and God’s provision of His Spirit, what has happened to him, will change. What has already happened will change. Not what is happening, but what has already happened, will change. What has already happened can still change!
Apostle Paul is sure that since the church is praying and since God has power, nothing is impossible. All the pain and difficulties that he has gone through and are now in the past, can still change and be a blessing that will bring him deliverance. Paul is so sure that God can change what is happening now and even what happened and got settled in the past. What has already happened can still change!
Genesis 50:19-20
But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? (20) You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
Joseph was harmed by his brothers. They sold him to slavery in Egypt. Then when the issue was settled and forgotten by both parties, God who changes what is happening and what happened, changed the past into a blessing. Now Joseph tells them, they intended to harm him, but God had good intentions and that is to save many lives. God changed a past-settled event into a present blessing. What has already happened can still change!
When we pray about an active problem, we expect God to intervene and stop the problem from harming us further. Sometimes God intervenes and stops the problem. Other times God lets the problem run its full course and come to an end. When the issue is now past, we wonder why God didn’t intervene. We give up and believe nothing can happen to change that past for it is gone. I have good news for you. Our God can change even past forgotten issues and make them present blessings. What has already happened can still change!
You lost a job, it hurt you at that time, you recovered and moved on, you can even laugh about it now. For you, anything about that lost job is over and nothing good or bad can still come out of it. Let me inform you gladly that our God is able to resist the matter and from that forgotten and settled issue, He can produce present and current blessings. What has already happened can still change!
A past business loss. A past heartbreak. A past unfair treatment. A past failure. A past rejection. A past embarrassment. Whatever past you experienced and God seemed silent and you moved on and have never understood the silence of God, be of good cheer, He can still change those misfortunes into a current blessing. What has already happened can still change!
Dear God, my past has so many issues I hardly understood why You remained silent and allowed the misfortunes. I praise You and pray that in Your time, revisit that past and bring out present-day blessings. Let it be even today, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
