Luke 5:4
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Some things are clear from the beginning. You know what they are from the start to the end. You do not have to guess or wait, you see what it is and as it takes shape. But not everything is this obvious from the beginning.
Some things are difficult to decipher at the beginning. Some things are not even clear halfway through the process. Some things only make sense at the end when you look back. These are things you won’t see without the privilege of hindsight!
Jesus comes to the shore of the lake. Jesus picks one of two boats that were not in use at that time. This boat that He picks happens to be that of Simon Peter. Jesus gets into the boat and uses it as a preaching platform. Jesus preaches and teaches from that boat to the crowd seated by the shores.
Until now we do not know how Peter will benefit since Jesus had used his boat. Up to now, we do not know if this service offered to God will help solve the problem they had of lack of fish. They had fished the whole night but caught no fish.
It is only when Jesus finished speaking, that it became clear how He was going to bless these people. After He finished speaking. After He finished and not while He was speaking, but after He finished speaking. God does some things only at the end of a process. You won’t see until He finishes!
When Jesus finished speaking, He asked Peter to go into the lake and engage in fishing. Peter was initially reluctant, but when he went fishing, the catch was so overwhelming that it became clear this was the doing of Jesus the Messiah. Their blessings of fish were to come, after serving the LORD, not at the beginning and not in the middle, but at the end.
If Peter had depended on the beginning to see God’s blessings, he would have given up very easily at the beginning, yet some blessings are only clear at the end. If Peter had done an assessment mid-way through the process, it would have seemed like serving God is a scam. Yet in the end, the blessings are great and they look back and realize that Jesus is God!
Certain plans that God has for your life will not be seen until the end of the commitment you made to God until you fulfill the promise made to God. Until everything has happened. You won’t see until He finishes working on you!
At the end Joseph saw that the slavery that was painful at the beginning was going to end up with him ruling Egypt and saving the family from starvation. At the end it made sense why he had to go to slavery. At the end it always makes sense. You won’t see until He finishes!
At the end your current pain will make sense. At the end this heartache will make sense. At the end this job loss will make sense. At the end this sickness will make sense. At some point this present confusion that challenges your faith, will make sense. You may not see it now or even half way into the problem, but at the end, when God finishes working on you, the blessings will be double like that of Job. You won’t see until He finishes!
Trust God and serve God, for now, you may not see the worth, but in the end, you will see it. Have you served God and you still feel it wasn’t worth it? Hang in there to the end, because you won’t see until He finishes. It may look like a waste, but it is no waste to serve God. You won’t see the blessings until He finishes!
May God give us patience and faith to trust Him even when the beginning and middle of the process don’t seem to have any blessings. May we cling to God to the end, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
